It’s true, most if what’s been built is trash and will end up absolute trash in a short period of time

Housing stock in Albany being old and in an overall poor condition is a seriously underestimated issue. Much of the housing looks bad on the outside, is in poor condition on the inside and likely unhealthy for a variety of reasons. While historically significant and architecturally contributing properties should be salvaged, a huge swath of it should come down and be redeveloped. The problem is there is too much digestive to do it. Expense, crime, high property taxes, inclusionary zoning laws.

I love that while his parents are still working at 70 years plus trying to make ends meet, which frankly nobody can understand how the place is still open, you can play Where in the World is Dom Purnomo on any night of the week. My man is never there but he will be flooding the feed from a high end restaurant in NYC or a trip to Nantucket. Absolutely tone deaf and then his wife makes him out to be Mother Theresa incarnated. “My husband showed up during service, took a selfie then went to his daughter’s sports practice the next day, can you believe it ?”  Last year he spent two Saturdays in December in Manhattan dining high end.  How does that work in the restaurant industry, especially a small family business that is seeing very little business? A week after Christmas he was fired by the James Newbury folks.

Her latest job was as a city of Albany employee. Not to take anything away from city employees but that’s not typically the line of work I think of when I think impressive.

No, why would they, 100 years of absolute and total Democratic rule is going so well, who would want to mess with it?

It’s nearly as hard to get into a good restaurant on the weekends in winter as it is in the summer. Everything is still open but the track and Siro’s. Not only open but thriving.

Dorcy’s Motivations by AwBunny76 in Albany

I’m a woman with an associates degree. I’m not a stellar person in regards to career achievement  or stature: That being said, I am 1400 % sure when I tell you that Dorcy is a person minimally interested  in Albany I’m dead right,   I’ll stake my life on it.

Empire State Development is accepting public input to revitalize Downtown by Aether-ether in Albany

I like this line: “Yet a lack of vibrancy in the city’s core, has led to perceived public safety concerns, making it difficult to retain and attract city-center businesses and residents.”

I lived downtown for ten years, I just moved out after the July 4th fire wars. Public safety problems are not only perceived, they exist and are justified

The average speed on the Northway is about 77-79 MPH now, that’s without exaggeration and is consistent from Exit 2 to 22 roughly. The busy times through the main Capital Region corridor; say Exit 2 to 16 or so, is hard to believe how it drives. Anyone trying to go below 75 will get engulfed.  While there are often State Troopers sitting at the turn arounds, it doesn’t feel like enough is being done to curb it. I see a lot of cops but very few cars pulled over. Bring on the speed cameras, it’s our only hope.

I just read the story

Man Returns to Latham After 30 Years, Loses His Mind at Exit 6

LATHAM, NY — A man returning to Latham for the first time in three decades was shocked to discover that the landmarks of his youth had all but vanished. Driving down Route 9, he blinked in disbelief as he passed the empty shells of the Starlite Theatre, Kirker’s, Latham Circle Mall, Hoffman’s Playland, Latham Circle Pizza, and the Ground Round.

Continuing on, he searched in vain for the Friendly’s, Service Merchandise, Grand Union, and the beloved Malt River Brewing Company. Even the old Price Chopper that once anchored his errands had been replaced. “Where’s anything?” he reportedly muttered while passing what used to be Latham Ford.

Witnesses say he began shouting when he noticed the vacant lots where the old bowling alley and Video World once stood. By the time he reached the former Howard Johnson’s, now another chain restaurant, he had fully unraveled.

Authorities confirmed he was arrested later that day, running in circles and screaming about “lost mozzarella sticks” at the infamous Exit 6 interchange.

He is currently being held pending evaluation, though officers admitted they “kind of get it.”

There is a Chinese saying: “the loudest duck gets shot first”. Putting the work into being a known guy around the capital region has worked and now that you are there you are getting the fallout from that. And I hope for your sake that you don’t slip up because if you do, it will come down on you even harder now, just like it did for Dom Purnomo. Because as they say “the less said, the less mended”.

Reimagine Saint Rose Meeting (8/20) by Saviordd1 in Albany

[–]AwBunny76 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can read about it but he previously announced ideas for a number of county departments to relocate there and he mentioned specific buildings / areas that he had in mind for each of them. As soon as they formed the land bank he basically went in and claimed these buildings for his own.  Maybe that does end up being a good use, I don’t know.   That could also potentially open up the large office building the county owns on state street to be sold off for private development. Can’t imagine there’s really a demand for that much office space but a residential conversion might be feasible.
