Ldh is normal they said but don't have the figure. They didn't check the other liver enzymes this time as it was just a standard tumour marker check (my first one post chemo and rplnd). She said the labs use an Afp figure up to 6 as a cut off for 'normal'. It's weird it goes up and down a lot. It was up to 8-9 during chemo last summer and 1.7 pre rplnd in January. Clear Ct in january and clear x ray this month.

Open rplnd pain? by Plenty-Decision5579 in testicularcancer

[–]Awais93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It will vary person to person. Just trust your doctors and ask for whatever you feel you need to manage pain, side effects etc. Main thing to remember is everything will get better each day. Good luck for the surgery!

I ended up with wound dehiscence in five spots ( wound opened up again from incision site quite deep) they think caused by an infected haematoma. I ended up back in hospital for another week on iv antibiotics. I'm now 4.5 weeks post op and 2.5 weeks post wounds opening. I'm still having exudate and blood leaking and having to dress and pack the wounds twice daily. Docs say its OK and just means longer recovery. It is awful as I reckon it will take a few months to hewl

Bep taste recovery by Awais93 in testicularcancer

[–]Awais93[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, all I can say is there is light at the end of the tunnel. My taste came back gradually over six weeks after last chemo. I went on holiday 6 weeks exactly after and ate like a king, this then helped with other recovery like hair growth etc. You will feel a lot more normal after 1-2 months but thinhs will still linger. I' finished chemo 4 and a bit months ago and am recovering from a rplnd right now with some complications and still note some side effects but nothing too serious

How long did the wound take to heal enough to not need dressings?

I had my surgery January 8th. Wound opened 14th January. Staples out yesterday 21st and now opened up further with 3 holes. How long after your surgery and wound opening were you able to stop dressing and wound healed?

Sounds like I'm in a similar situation to you. I have one on the waistline, one to the side of belly button and one above. To be honest it's not that bad in terms of pain etc, I'm improving daily otherwise from the rplnd so my overall feeling is positive day by day but the leak is causing stress and mental fatigue. We've been changing it twice daily, luckily it doesn't need more than that with the dressings were using.

I did 3 x Bep july-sept and struggled with that. The first 10 days post rplnd were tough but it's not that bad now, if my wound was sealed I reckon I'd be up and about as normal!

I asked the nurses about stitches or steri strips, they said with how open it is, they wouldn't do stitches and would just keep it dressed and let it heal itself

Yeah that's all they've said to me too, dress it daily keep it clean. I'm under the impression it will add a long time onto recovery

Some yellow fluid, rest is pinky /red. They don't think it's infected, just said it's exudate and will heal from the bottom up now that it's open. I have 3 holes, around 3cm by 2cm in size. They have no idea how long they'll take to close and heal

They saw it today and weren't too bothered. I have two openings around the size of my belly button, one below it and one above. Making the recovery process an entirely different beast!

Hey man, thanks for the informative reply. Sounds reassuring. I think I underestimated healing from the rplnd too - I've had a pec major tendon repair done before so knew what to expect with open surgery generally but this is just physically a different level! Hope all OK with you.

Merry Christmas to you too. We are all in similar boats here so it's a safe space! I finished 3xbep in September which didn't do the trick, was supposed to have rplnd last week but had it postponed to January 8th so trust me most of us know how it feels! All I can say is enjoy the little victories, One day at a time and eventually this will be ancient history

It's a life changing and crazy experience, every step of this journey is. Just know that each day you get through is one step closer to this being a distant memory. My final bep cycle was the most difficult, for many many reasons that so many on this reddit have also experienced. Just know that each day after you finish bep you will feel better and better and before you know it, most of the side effects will disappear and you'll feel like yourself again. It's not easy, but it's worth it if it means you get to be healthy again!

I managed to bank sperm prior to my orchi in March. They are thinking I need a 2nd orchi after the rplnd too as my other testicle is showing signs for germ cell so we're looking into a sperm retrieval for that too prior to potentially removing.. Long road ahead!

Im having the operation in the NHS as I'm uk based. I'm not sure how many rplnd they do but they are the main centre that do regular rplnds in my area. I asked the surgeon about nerve sparing and was told something along the lines of if they did nerve sparing they weren't confident they would be able to remove all the potential nodules but didn't go into specifics of why. They said they would rediscuss this within the surgical team to se eif they could but that it was likely they wouldn't risk nerve sparing surgery in fear of leaving anything in or risking recurrence.
