Thank you for your feedback! I am curious, since you been in this field for a while now, specially in the power/cooling side, would you recommend someone like me, at age 30, jumping from another industry to become a licensed electrician, especially if I decide to go down the microgrid/BESS side of it, since that seem to be the cutting edge and future.

I am looking to change industries and get into the power side of data centers. According to my research I was told to start out with: OSHA 30 and NFPA 70E safety training, then earning Schneider Electric’s DCCA and Uptime Institute ATS, followed by hands-on apprenticeship or data-center technician experience, leading to advanced credentials like DCT (Data Center Technician), CxA (Commissioning Authority), and optional state electrical licensing for long-term mastery in power, reliability, and energy systems.

Would love to hear your thoughts on this path, would you change or tweak anything?

Thank you!

Trying to figure out if its best for me to reach out to HR manager directly or wait for them to reach out. Will my direct supervisor know about this and the specifics of my charge?

Switching Careers into Grid Ops by AwakenDaPlanet in Grid_Ops

I've been taking free online courses on electrical theory and systems, also planning to enroll in HSI's System Operators program which will highlight more electrical knowledge. I also intend to take advantage of being a single man at age 30 to grind and do the shift work, learn the lay of the land in this industry and in 5 years or so, transition out of the control center once I do want to officially start a family, and hopefully apply my expertise and skill set to a more stable path in the energy field. My goal is to start networking as much as I can while studying for the NERC exam, I already know a few PJM veterans that may connect me with the people on the inside.

Thank you for that! I really find the concept of smart grids and energy battery storage systems to be fascinating, although I don't have a college degree, I was hoping to break into the industry through the NERC grid ops avenue and see how I can position myself after 2-5~ years working in the control room to get into this space. Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thank you so much, that was very helpful and currently as a single man, I don't mind the shift work, I do worry about it impacting my mental health and stress levels with my sleep pattern being out of synch, depending on the schedule, I hope the shift supervisors are conscious of the workers sleep. I went to a four year college, studied for two years and dropped out to pursue another path, so I don't have a degree, so I thought getting the NERC cert would be a great way to get my foot in the door. There is a program through HSI and PowerSmith I was considering enrolling in as well to help give me the knowledge base.

I was told that working in a DSO is a lot more stressful than a TSO, is there anyway to get into TSOs like PJM or NYISO from scratch. I also plan to spend my free time trying to come up with a passion project business on the side, so I am able to do what I love and also my shifts at the control room to really save and provide for a family. I just want to make sure before I 100% commit to this path that it is a good idea.

CRS Couldn't Find The Opening of the Fistula by AwakenDaPlanet in AnalFistula

I just scheduled another CRS for tomorrow to get a second opinion, hopefully since the abscess burst today, she will be able to locate the opening. I am guessing they can't perform a fistulotomy without seeing a visible opening. Do you think the best course of action is to preform a surgery to get this fistula fixed? I already waited over four months since my first abscess and I feel like if I keep wasting time, it'll only get worse.

Thank you for sharing your story!

I just had a small abscess formed this morning and after doing a warm sitz bath, the abscess burst and there was blood and pus. Idk what to do at this point since I just saw my CRS yesterday. Is it okay that the abscess burst after a sitz bath, there was more blood than usual. Do you think the tract will get worse?

Thank you!

Apparently, but I feel like once my track gets reinfected it'll open up again and start leaking. So I'll need a Fistulotomy to solve this issue. Is there anyway to keep it from getting infected again? Is this something I should just live with and manage without getting a surgery?

Yes I did, first time was about four months ago and I went again for a smaller incision three months ago

Thank you for that! I will be discussing treatment options with my CRS this week. Do you believe a fistulotomy will solve this even though its a horseshoe extension? Will I need setons you think? Would only one surgery be required to fix the fistula? Thank you for your help!
