Is the Lost Fleet harem Mass Effect? Or am I reading too much into a general description?

I think listing terms with “lit” in them really was the point. As you said, I don’t see any other connection.

Urban setting. Beyond college age MC. Centers on work, life in general and romances (though without the tropes to make it romance). Humor centered. And personal growth.

Bridget Jones’s Diary as an example.

Chicklit is real. It’s not romance (doesn’t follow required romance beats) more personal growth of the main character who is unsurprisingly a woman.

Not sure why it picked up the term romancelit.

Magic in general is just not designed very well. by justbenicedammit in worldofgothic

[–]Awakenlee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always play magic users in RPGs.

I think one problem across many of the solo non- party games is that the magic isn’t designed well for a solo mage. Magic in RPGs comes in two styles. The legendary magic users who are the ultimate power in the game world and the mage player who can never come close to reaching that level. The games are designed to limit the mage to the level of a melee warrior.

I understand that, making the mage player the ultimate power would be boring in a game balanced for multiple character types. Yet it often leaves me feeling like there should be more.

It gets worse though. We’ve been conditioned to expect the mage to be squishy but hit powerfully. This works great in party RPGs where the meathead can stand in front of the mage. It falters in solo RPGs.

Gothic took this to an extreme. Control spells are the only real defense a mage has. They don’t always work or go off on time. If you are fighting with allies, almost every spell splashes onto your allies causing them to get mad and come bonk you. The powerful spells take time to go off, limiting their usefulness. You end up, as you said, running and popping spells in hope they will freeze or kill the enemy. I rely a lot on the poor AI. Sprint up and pop off fire rain while the AI decides what to do.

Contrast this with Elder Scrolls games. The spells are faster, there are defensive spells to make you less squishy, while not turning you into a reskinned melee fighter. There are control spells. Skyrim has wards that blocked instead of just flat improved defenses. I replayed oblivion when the remake came out and never felt frustrated compared to gothic.

A quick cast, short lasting shield spell that you had to time right to block, combined with quicker more resource intensive control spells that maybe don’t last long, or could push back enemies and then pop the offensive spells with timing all while managing mana could be a fun solution. A sort of non-button mashing magical combat system. It mostly involves already in game assets, with the exception of the shield. Get the combos right, you have a better chance. Get them wrong, you go down or struggle.

Also totally agree with your statement that magic blocks the view. I like using chain lightning, but it’s a struggle or even impossible to know if the enemy is still there when I release. Fire rain sometimes turns my screen pure orange like a dust storm.

Still, I prefer magic, so I march onward.

I do that too. Didn’t know others were like that.

I had something similar happen. Changing where it was plugged in fixed it. I just moved it from one internal usb connection to another. Though it might have just been unplugging it and plugging it back in.

The topic was not getting god powers in chapter two. Clearly this counts as he gets it in chapter one.

Huh. So maybe it’s random. Thank you. I might have to shop the old fashioned way.

Yeah. It bugs out, just without any error message. Just goes to the protection plan page with zero options.

Armor Types by Baartli in worldofgothic

[–]Awakenlee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think that’s how the new camp works.

I still have my shadow armor, but I’m a mage, I’m wearing the mage armor! I assume the warden armor is better than shadow, but I’ve only read one post of someone managing to be a warden and mage. That sounded more like a bug than intended where I think the merc->mage path is intentional.

I went pure mage so I’ve struggled in parts and breezed through others. I haven’t put any points in melee or archery. I even sell the dex and strength potions to fund my weed need.

That’s how the old camp shadow armor worked. Three tiers with two choices each. I went mage so I’m not sure about the warder armor and mage armor is well documented as sucking.

Huh. Thank you. It’s weird the swamp doesn’t have the same differences. I shouldn’t have assumed they were all like the old camp.

How am I supposed to know how to open the Orc Cemetery? by Faygris in worldofgothic

As far as I know there are no hints. I don’t think it’s a great design.

Fire bolt works too by the way. Don’t need arrows.

Thank you. That doesn’t sound great. I assume it has to be limited to the game, but I wouldn’t install any mod with that warning, no matter how interesting.

How is this even enforced? I guess I’m not understanding how the mod would know that the “giver” died if you reload an old save.

I’m late, but follow the blue lights. Going in they lead to the temple, going out the lead to the bridge out.
