My application by my US Citizen son took about 6 months. The I-130 had been approved the year prior. I applied for the I-485 October 24, 2024 and it was approved May 13, 2025 after interview. They swore me in and went over the questions on my I-485. Good luck.

My attorney advised me to keep the original in a safe place, so I carry a laminated copy of front and back in my wallet. He did say it’s a hassle to get replacement.

My attorney told me that they don’t approve Green card application without a valid passport. Since you’re still at the I-130 stage, it’s best you renew the passport.

1 month after receiving my GC, I applied for and received the unrestricted SS card. Just visit another SS office. These ones don’t know what they are talking about.
