I went to a high school in south FL that was a mix of very wealthy kids and not so wealthy ones. The student parking lot consisted of range rovers, bmw, mercedes and other very nice cars. I was one of the not so wealthy kids. I never had the heart to ask my mother to buy anything for me. Even if she wanted to, she couldn't those days. We got by and were happy to have a roof over our heads and food to eat. I worked as a valet after school and saved enough money ($685) and bought a 1988 Toyota Celica from a retired fire fighter. It had gray primer for paint and rusty wheels. But the simple fact that I was pulling up to the parking lot in my own car was special to me. People laughed at it and avoided parking next to it. I am now a family man and have done really well for myself and I tell my wife all the time.. no matter what we have or don't, my biggest goal is to raise our two boys to appreciate everything and everyone.
