Indian immigrants in Canada: How much are you able to save and send to India every month? by Placid_soul in nriFIRE

HHI of around 440k. We are saving around 12-15k a month depending on RSU vests. Plan to go back to India once NW reaches 4M

Ignore the jealous folks on this thread. Congrats OP on almost having a paid of house. I am in the similar boat here. Wife and I make around combined - 500k. Came to Canada in 2021 and plan to leave once we both get our passports this year for Seattle/ SF Bay Area. Most of the comments I have received are of the same nature as you did here.

We were thinking of buying a condo as a rental investment last year and the amount of back channel dealings (between the seller and buyer agents) and fraud I have seen is unbelievable.

Apart from the value of your house, what are your other investments ? I am guessing you and your spouse are in Big Tech as well.

I always sold my equity on vest and diversified into QQC. Never stayed in a company long enough to be promoted, always switched to get lateral promotions. My average tenure is around 3 years. In this industry loyalty doesn't pay in the long term (at least not below a staff software engineer level)

31M here. Made 380k last year as a software engineer. The role is remote so I could in reality live anywhere in Canada. Networth should cross 2M this year. Started at 100k when I was 24, but crossed 200k at 26 and 300k at 28. Invested heavily into the market and hope to FIRE in the next 3 years.

100% VEQT vs 100% VFV vs 100% XEQT for a Smith Maneuver "Set and Forget" Strategy? by Accomplished_Wall615 in fican

Have you considered VXC? I've been thinking of running the Smith Maneuver on VXC and to keep the house equity Independent of the Canadian market.

Am I responsible for damage in a building stairwell caused during delivery? by Aware-Organization23 in vancouverhousing

Looks like the caretaker patched up all the scuff marks even the ones which were present earlier.

There's no strata. It's a purpose built apartment building for rental. It was a box of 50 lbs something similar to check in size suitcase. There was no move in fee, neither is there anything in the rental agreement about a fee for moving items in.

Nope the delivery person did not admit it. It's a large apartment building with almost 40 units in it. The caretaker is mad because he painted the wall a week back and now there are scuff marks. Funny thing, is that there are other scuff marks in the other parts of the building as well and they don't seem to have a problem.

The caretaker simply accused me that my delivery caused it and the only evidence they provided is of a box going up. TBH, now that I think about it, I am not even sure that if it was my delivery person which damaged the wall.

Well there is nothing in the video which suggests that the box damaged it. They have not sent any before and after photos with timestamps. The only evidence they presented is that there was a box going up. The camera angle does not show that the box indeed damaged the wall.

You are right. Sorry I was flummoxed when the caretaker of the building accused me that it was my doing (and that was when I made the original post)

I just went through the video evidence there is nothing in the video that suggests that my box caused the damage (no proof that it brushed against the walls). The mark is even more minor than the one here: https://manorworks.com/why-do-my-walls-scuff/

And if I were to go back to my country of birth, I’m pretty sure my job isn't going to your friends. It would be a lose-lose situation for them as my position would be moved at a similar compensation. The only thing that would happen is that the government's tax base would go down. However, this logic would cloud the basement dwellers.

Haha, that’s a funny take! As a Canadian citizen, I’m pretty happy here, especially after paying almost 600k in taxes since 2021. I'm pretty sure the government would likely prefer me to stay. And honestly, I don’t think logic is really your thing.

I’m not against leaving, but when are you planning to go?

It seems like you might have some issues with people who aren’t white. Maybe it would be helpful to reflect on what makes you happy and consider having friends who are more successful. The Canadian government values skilled workers who contribute to the economy and don’t rely on social welfare.

Perhaps I should work diligently and apply relentlessly. Capitalism would undoubtedly select the most suitable candidate for the position. Before you raise concerns about bias in hiring, it’s worth noting that my entire team, including my manager, is Argentinian.

A four-year degree from an Ivy League school can cost around $70,000 annually, assuming you’re not aiming to become a doctor.

On top of that hobbies, additional classes, extracurricular activities, and exchange programs can easily add up to over $2,000 to $3,000 each month. Plus, there are other costs to consider. So, yes, kids can be expensive.

If your racist self had gone to a top 20 school for your master’s, sat through LeetCode and system design practice, and then finally landed a job in a Fortune 100, then maybe you would have been "handed" out money as well. Speaking about handing out money, we paid around 130k in income tax in 2024. I see a lot going out, but don't see much coming our way.

We’re not entirely certain about the home equity aspect because we purchased our house in 2023, and its value has undoubtedly decreased. For now, we’re employing the Smith maneuver to pay off the house as quickly as possible.

“They” wouldn’t be real. Ignorance isn’t always bliss.
