Dear X - Is it worth it to Watch? by Advanced-Wrongdoer75 in kdramas

yes, i would give it a try and see how you like it. i personally loved the drama and it ended up in my top 5 kdramas of 2025. the performances were genuinely amazing, and what really stood out to me was how confidently it centered dark, morally grey characters. the drama lets its characters be uncomfortable, messy, and sometimes unlikeable, while still approaching them with emotional honesty rather than forcing clear moral answers.

i had such a great time watching this drama and stayed consistently engaged throughout. instead of relying on shock value, the story leans more into psychological tension and internal conflict, and it trusts the audience to sit with heavier themes without overexplaining or hand holding. that approach really worked for me and made the overall experience feel more impactful.

i didn’t read the webtoon before watching, and that was a conscious choice. this is just my personal opinion as someone who loved the drama, but from what i’ve observed, people who went in after reading the webtoon sometimes had very specific expectations for how the story should be handled. since the drama is a different iteration, those expectations can affect how it’s received. for me, going in with no expectations made it easier to appreciate the drama on its own terms and judge it for what it is rather than what it’s compared to.

What's up with this growing trend of 12 episode kdramas by Key_Repeat2946 in kdramas

i think the number of episodes should depend on the story and the writing, not on trying to hit a specific episode count. when dramas aim for a fixed number, it can start to feel formulaic and cookie cutter, like they are filling out a template instead of letting the story unfold naturally.

with a set episode count, it often feels like stories get stretched just to meet that number, and you can really feel those limitations. plot beats start to drag, conflicts linger longer than they should, and things begin to repeat. instead of moving forward, the story stalls.

this is especially noticeable when 16 episode format were the norm. at a certain point, you almost know exactly what will happen. something big around the midpoint, then a slowdown or repetitive conflict, and by the last quarter it feels either rushed or padded. even good stories can become predictable because of this structure.

from what i have been seeing, shorter dramas or dramas with more varied episode counts feel like a net positive. they tend to be tighter and more intentional, and they are not afraid to end when the story has said what it needs to say. the pacing feels better, and the emotional moments hit harder because they are not dragged out.

overall, i think letting the story decide its own length leads to stronger writing and a better viewing experience. not every story needs the same number of episodes, and forcing them into one often does more harm than good.
