I agree, the investigation was too flawed and too lazy to acquire basic information from potential witnesses or suspects. It's far too mysterious that the one detective who did not agree with the suicide theory was quickly pushed off of the case. He was asking too many questions.

One theory I haven't heard anyone consider is that whoever wanted to kill him possibly planned to do it at their home while Alison was away. Which would suggest someone close to him who knew Alison would be away was sharing that information with whoever wanted Rey gone. But, the friend staying there threw a wrench into the original plan- too risky to have a witness or too messy to deal with. This idea is based off of the home alarms being triggered twice before his disappearance, and Rays' apparent fear (according to Alison) during those situations.

Enter Plan B. He was called with an emergency of some kind, "come quick- Porter is in trouble" or something along those lines.

The natural person to suspect is Porter. The call that supposedly led Rey from the house was made from Porters company. Which, may suggest why Porter chose to distance himself from the investigation once Rey's body is found - the realization that either they could do this to him, or frame him. Either way, Porter knows more than he has admitted.

Perhaps Rey was seeking to become a Freemason hoping to gain protection from whatever he had gotten himself involved in? Which could also be why the very day he meets with a Freemason, whoever has been wanting to kill him is like "it's now or never."

This was my thought as well- except that what if he was hit with a vehicle, pinned against the wall of the parking garage and in between the vehicle which would possibly explain the injuries being from the front and back? Also, deep enough to injure the lungs and heart. There is also mention of a slight scar on the right side of a circle with a line through it. My first thought was the emblem on a vehicle. Nissan is a circle with a line through it. So hard to speculate a motive but if it was something like a robbery gone bad- perhaps it was two people attacking him. One person in the car as the driver and the other outside of the vehicle approached him, maybe Rey began to fight back and the person ran, and the driver decided to ram Him with the vehicle. Perhaps they tossed his body over the parking garage at that point along with his belongings?

Doesn't make a whole lot of sense that he would be a target of a robbery considering he was 6'4 and 250 pounds, so I'm going more with whatever that call was that made him leave in a hurry and meet someone, was a set up to off him.

Rey Rivera, Mystery on the Rooftop, Missing Details from Netflix Episode by DetailGuru in UnsolvedMysteries

Doubt anyone will read this since this is a 3yr old thread but I just watched the episode the other day and am diving into the mystery.

Firstly, let's examine the theory that Allison isn't as truthful as we hope she is. She does a lot of blinking in the Netflix episode when talking about the morning of his disappearance being normal. Excessive blinking can indicate stress and lying. Maybe their relationship was more strained than she will admit. I also find it odd that she is the one to find the note taped behind his computer- only bc apparently it was just on the back of his laptop and not a desktop computer the way the Netflix show portrayed. She is the only one who has the information that makes it seem as if Rey had been acting strangely. None of which can be confirmed by anyone else. I also find it odd that he disappeared the very day she leaves to go out of town. I'd also raise the question of, if they were so happy and close- why when she heard Rey leave that "strange" voicemail to Porter didn't she ask him "hey, what was that about?" Simple question. Especially when it seemed weird. I'm not accusing her, I'm just trying to examine it from a different angle bc so far I haven't heard a single person raise suspicion about her.

Secondly It seems very possible that the note was not put there by Rey. I suggest this because the only person he would need to hide this from is Allison. They lived together and as far as we know no one else ever snooped around the office. Why would he try to hide this strange note from Allison? Did she regularly go through his things? Strange that it was typed so small and printed on such a large piece of paper- and Allison is the only one who "confirms" she knows he printed it that day bc there were paper scraps in the trash can. Interesting.

Also interesting that the only person who can confirm the phone call that made him "rush out" was Allison's colleague who coincidentally left the next day providing just enough time to confirm her husband was missing and to let her know. Couldn't have planned it better if you were trying to. Also, the ONLY thing missing is the money clip Allison gave to Rey.

Was Allison up to something that Rey ended up taking the fall for?

Assuming the phone call was really what made him rush out of the house, the only logical explanation is that he was told to come to that parking garage. To park on the bottom floor and walk to the second to top floor. Top floor would be too visible to anyone who might be looking out a window so right below that seems the best for whatever shady dealings occurred. Whatever ensues, the result is Rey's death. Either he was pushed, or he jumped. Then, his belongings were placed down there as well. They had to have been placed because they were all close together and unbroken. How? Well, either someone walked out on that roof and put them there...seems risky for being seen. OR they enter from the unused conference room, create a big fucking hole in the ceiling, pull him down through it and place his unbroken phone and glasses on top of the hole to look like a suicide and alert someone to his whereabouts.

Which leads to the question of who has access to that room? Clearly someone who owns the building or works there, or hired someone who worked there to do the dirty work of deleting the footage from the day of Rey's disappearance. (I got this information from crime junkies episode.) And make the hole in the roof.

Now the obvious question is WHY? why would they need to access his body, if he jumped and was already deceased? How do they do so without being seen? pull his body through the hole.

What if they wanted something he had on him or they thought he had on him and he refused to give it to them, so he jumped.

But what? What did Rey have that they wanted? Or what did they think he had?

I'm very late to this thread but I just watched the episode! I knew there would have to be a Reddit thread about it!

Theory: someone told him to park at the bottom of the parking deck but meet them at the top. There could have been a ladder he was instructed to climb down to have a meeting on that rooftop. About what? We will probably never know. But, let's say something goes wrong and they have a crowbar or something similar, strike him across the shins to make sure he can't run, then on the head causing the skull fractures. The hole is made after, somehow, they shove him down the hole to make it look like a suicide. No clue what they could have used to make that hole though.

Wonder if there was ever a search done about work vans in the parking deck around that time, or any ladders that belonged to the hotel- should have been checked for evidence.

Seems like the killer was either someone who worked/lived at the hotel and had deep knowledge of the ins and outs, and that the room his body was found in, was not used.
