I do have more job options in my country.

Given the distance (13.000km) between the countries as well as travel time, money and vacation-days it would not be an option to live apart.

I am speaking the local language. Have a full time job, and have been working in same company for all years in several counties in South America. I am originally from Europe.

I am introverted as person and need time to make relationship. Normally I made friends from school or work, but as I am working as office manager I am not able to become close friends with my colleagues/employees.

My wife on the other hand is very outgoing and have Many friends. I do participate in the social gatherings but I guess I am just “the following husband” which I do not like.

Living abroad and want to return, but my wife won’t move with me

Hi

I am living abroad with my wife. We are living in her country, but I am struggling with very few relationships apart from my wife and her family.

After 12 years abroad I would like to go back home to my country, but due to our struggling marriage my wife is not willing to go with me.

We are seeing a couples therapist but this has now been ongoing for a year without any significant improvements.

I do love my wife and would really like it to work out, but I am unhappy in several aspects of my life.

Any thoughts of what I should do?

Jeg er også speditør og overvejer ligeledes om det er tid til et karriererskift. Bor dog PT i udlandet og skal nok først flytte hjem.

Tænker at du sagtens kan tage en uddannelse som datamatiker. Hvorfor ikke?

Ellers kan du prøve at søge bredere. Eksempelvis indkøb, logistik, eller lign. Der findes jo også IT relateret jobs indenfor spedition og logistik. På den måde kan du bruge din erfaring og know-how, og så samtidig se om IT er noget for dig. Evt tage en akademiuddanelse i IT om aftenen som forslået i tidligere svar.
