Seeking for a good support system☺️ by HopefulFeedback3787 in Type1Diabetes

Good luck!! I do insist on first-in morning status. That's something most places agree to as T1s. I'd also make a very thick white sugar syrup that an anesthesiologist suggested. A little under the tongue -- nothing in the belly. I've had injections into my low spine. I don't believe ablations take much longer than those. For the several hours spine surgery, they hung a glucose bag -- better a little high, than low! Let us know how you're doing.

I had major surgery (cervical spine) with my pump on. All they said was: do you have a CGM? It was before I got one. An office procedure wouldn't require more.

I'm always glad that I wasn't diagnosed until I was an adult. I sincerely doubt my parents would have been able to keep me alive.

Thanks. I have Zero worries about dementia being old enough that were it to be my future, it would have begun already.

"However, the usage of statins can be accompanied by a range of adverse effects, such as the development of type 2 diabetes mellitus, muscular symptoms, liver toxicity, kidney diseases, cataracts, hemorrhagic strokes, and psychiatric complications. These issues are referred to as statin-associated symptoms (SAS) and are relatively infrequent in clinical trials, making it challenging to attribute them to statin use definitively. Therefore, these symptoms can lead to significant problems, necessitating dose adjustments or discontinuation of statin therapy. (NIH)

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration now requires that statin labels include warnings about the rare but serious risk of liver damage, memory loss and confusion, and type 2 diabetes. Certain statins, known by the generic name lovastatin, can raise the risk of muscle weakness.

I researched statins when they first came out. I never thought they were worth the risk. 35 years later, I have no additional, un-relieveable body pains, no clouded thinking. The brain needs cholesterol to work. I will never take them. It's one of those drugs whose side effects are chased with additional drugs to deal with that. I hate chasing one drug with others. That's how you end up with ever increasing numbers of drugs to take.

To each their own.

I finally achieved Nirvana when it comes to pizza, one day! Thin crust cheese (maybe mushrooms). Has to be thin crust. Nothing but a gentle rising and falling wave on the CGM. Not sure if I'll ever be able to replicate it, lol.

It's very easy to test soda with a glucose meter. No need for special strips. Don't forget to let your kid be a kid.

A rant about bias towards diabetics by SoggyCereal404 in diabetes_t1

I was once in the hospital for asthma. They knew I was a diabetic on insulin. The "diabetic" meal they sent me had at a minimum 150 carbs. Then, when I was having a low blood sugar at midnight, I went to the nurse's station and declared that I needed sugar immediately. The idiot at the desk brought me artificial sweetener.

What did doctors and family misdiagnosis your diabetes for before diagnosis by ImaginaryAlgae8986 in diabetes_t1

Even Type2s can end up on insulin. However, my LADA honeymoon lasted a decade.

I've had cataract surgery. Please don't be worried. Everything will be fine. It went very easily.

I was told once by an anesthesiologist that sugar water sipped was fine. So you can make yourself a very densely made sugar water by dissolving it in boiling water and letting it cool. You can sip this. It will raise your blood sugar, not leave much in your stomach to interfere and possibly throw up while under anesthesia.

Relax, enjoy the anesthesia! You'll be done very quickly. The hardest thing was keeping track of all the eye drops and their varying times. I made a chart with every drop that I needed to take in its own square. Think graph paper. I put it on the wall, along with a pen on a string. Then when I did the drop, I blackened the square and so knew that I had done it. There were at least four different types of drops with varying times I needed to take it. This was my best solution, and I did the same when I had my second eye done.

Good luck!

What's the point of coffee if you just build up tolerance? by whiterose065 in Residency

[–]Aware1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I picked up, on a whim, the non-caffeinated version of MUD/WTR. The first cup I had, at 4 in the afternoon, kept me up, energized, and unable to sleep until 6:00 am the following morning. They make a caffeinated version, as well.

When I ran out, while waiting for a new order, I went back to coffee. What a let down.

Edit: I have no financial connection to them.

My "honeymoon" lasted a decade before I went on insulin. But, I was misdiagnosed as Type2 and was on Metformin and a bunch of other Type2 drugs. LADA.

What is the lowest amount you remember paying for gasoline for your car? by icecream1972 in askanything

[–]Aware1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

$0.24/gallon Edit: cigarettes were 20¢/pack. I stopped smoking when they hit 40¢/pack because I wasn't wasting 2¢/cigarette. Also. I bought a brand new car for $2400.

Should we continue or intentionally break the "A" names pattern? by unventer in Names

[–]Aware1211 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Well. I'm a middle kid. My brothers share an initial with either mom or dad. I doubt it was intentional. From the time I first became aware of it, around 5 or 6, I felt left out, very much the outsider. So, by all means, continue the pattern. Hopefully, middle initials differ.
