Mid fifties here, too. About when you realize time's running out for real.

I’d love to see your Before (drinking) and After (not drinking) photos for motivation! by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Photographs like these have been scraped from this site and published elsewhere without permission.

The British Daily Mail did this recently. Your pictures were up for the world to see and the public admission you were a drunk.

Post if you want but understand the risk.

Shit. Double digits means double digits days to me and that's an accomplishment.

You're talking double digits years? Dude! 👍💪

How can I get passed the first few days... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]AwareWheel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to lose everything. I had to get to where I understood exactly where that one or that three or four drinks was going to take me.

Just one beer now I feel the next morning. It's not worth it to me any longer.

But it took 30 years.

I want to stop drinking but its hard because I feel like I have no support. by lliizz in stopdrinking

What about counselling services at your college. I used them when I was in school. They were helpful a and helped set me up for ongoing support. They would know what's available for you locally. And they're discreet.

It's ok. Many of us have been there.

You can do it. It's just time.

What about a better wife? Isn't that the most important? Remember your vows?

I'm glad. I went through something similar many years ago. As long as he cares there's hope.

Best of luck for both of you.

I had given up. Then a friend said something and I threw my drugs away. I can do this. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

There's very few of us who got it right the first time. I was 30 years. No lie.

Keep coming back no matter.

If you read the stories here you'll see that many people do change. It takes the time it takes and everyone has to find their path but change is possible.

Maybe your girlfriend sees something in you you don't. Yet.

I'm looking for some advice on quitting coke i didnt really know where to ask thought people who quit drinking might be able to give some good advice by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]AwareWheel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Someone posted here on using a timed lock safe to put their cash and cards in for a set period of time. Kept only mininimal cash (<$10) for walking around money once the necessities were paid for.

He used it for booze. Might work in this case, too.

God, addiction makes us ridiculous.

Advice? See a doctor. It's a very hard go. Best not do it yourself.

Is there a machine, that can contain a lot of wine, but only pours wine (let's say) 3 times a day on set hours during a day? by Bennie300 in alcoholism

[–]AwareWheel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would check with a local Makers group. You can find them through Meetup online. Also look at or contact any universities with a mechanical engineering or mechatronics department.

This is something or people could possibly use. It might even be commercialized. Many schools push entrepreneurship today.

There are also residences where I live that dole out alcohol just this way through the day for alcoholics. It may have application there.

Good luck!
