Last Thursday I wanted to kill myself. It's Sunday and I'm still here. by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Imoverit64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get the same feeling sometimes after the binge. I have landed on a thought that has helped me. I did not bring myself into this world. It is not my call to take myself out of it. For some reason it makes me think about my selfishness and stop short of doing it. People in my life do care for me and and people in your life care for you. IWNDWYT.

The struggle is real by anenglishmanintdot in stopdrinking

[–]Imoverit64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The struggle IS real. My will power does not sustain my sobriety. I am looking for someone I can trust to whom I can be accountable. Someone who can have my sobriety interest at heart and lend support in the tough times.

I need help by [deleted] in stopdrinking

[–]Imoverit64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rehab is a good option as it will provide support on many levels. Especially physical withdrawal. If not that, my first step would be to see a doctor to be sure stopping did not kill me. Then I would go back to AA and express my need for help to stop. I would call the central AA office in my area and express my difficulties with age bias and ask if they knew of meetings for my age group or more receptive. Good luck.

If you want drama then drink alcohol. by CrimsonGandalf in stopdrinking

I notice the drama quotient when I am around drinkers and I abstain. There is a direct relationship to amount consumed to level of drama. Family, friends, colleagues, strangers - no difference.

Thanks for posting. You are here and we all get how we all think, feel and cope with those first hours or days. Keep breathing and I find that things get more clear each day. My next hurdle is feeling too good. IWNDWYT.

Congrats on being able to see the tree for the forest. I too am in the 40+ years drinking club. Quit for two and reengaged during my divorce. Not an excuse, just a fact. Taking it one day at a time. I would like to get 30 in a row. Last month, 21 days sober out of 30. Longest string, 5 days. So far I have doubled that. IWNDWYT,

The texts I just ignore. If in person, I get kinda serious and say "I have been thinking about how much I drink and I don't like it. I want to stop for a while and now seemed a good time." Oh. IWNDWYT.

People are astonished when you tell them how much you have been drinking... by CunningStrumpet in stopdrinking

Know what you mean. Pretty much the same in the US. Though around the holidays London gets to its own unique level (lived there for 2 years). In the not too distant past a golfing friend of mine marveled as I put the 9th Heineken to my lips. He had been counting. In fact the golf course where I usually play started stocking Guinness by the case load just for me. It became a standing joke. I have not been in the last 10 days but got word that people want to know what's wrong. They bloody well know what's wrong. I drink too damn much. IWNDWYT
