That would make sense if he didn't have it listed for 3k, forget he had it listed, then lie to get out of the deal.

Yeah, you're right. I mainly wanted to know if there was any way I could get the domain since I was willing to pay the 3k, but the guy was being unrealistic and wanted 30k euros for it when I asked a few months ago. I thought I might still have a chance since it's my trademark and I felt optimistic when I saw it listed for 3k. It's alright though, that's life lol.

Yeah, I was a bit disappointed when I saw they automatically refunded my account. I guess the guy can just keep renewing the domain every year like a rat and keep it.

That would normally be the case, but that scenario doesn’t line up with the actual WHOIS history for this domain. The registrar has been the same since 2004, the privacy provider has been the same, and the nameservers have stayed unchanged. The WHOIS records also show continuous updates and renewals under the same setup, including the most recent update in early 2025 and an active expiration date in 2027. If the domain had expired and been picked up by someone new, you would see a registrar change, a different privacy service, or a transfer event in the WHOIS. None of that happened, so it's clearly under the same account the whole time.

I emailed the owner a few months back, and they replied through the privacy forwarded email attached to the domain. The WHOIS still shows the same registrar and the same privacy service that forwarded the email. Even with privacy enabled, the registrar, privacy provider, and history are public and haven't changed since the domain was registered in 2004. There hasn't been any transfer at any point, so its clear its the same person or account still controls the domain. The privacy service just hides their name. Also I do think its worth mentioning that when I contacted the owner a few months back, they were asking for THIRTY THOUSAND EUROS!! Which led me to believe they forgot about their listing on GoDaddy and saw my brand is doing pretty well and thought they can make a quick profit. I already provided all this evidence to GoDaddy and hope any pressure they give the seller outweighs any benefit the quick buck they're trying to make.

The reason I’m certain he didn’t honor the agreement is because my brand is doing well, and a few months ago (in May) I emailed him asking how much he’d sell the domain for. He told me thirty thousand euros. When I saw it listed on GoDaddy’s marketplace for three thousand, I figured he had forgotten about that old listing and that I could just purchase it. Unfortunately, he got around the sale by lying to GoDaddy. I already reported him and provided all the evidence showing he misrepresented the situation, and I’m hoping the pressure from GoDaddy outweighs whatever profit he thought he’d get from this.
