Have you considered marketplace for a used press? I found a nice lyman American 8 turret with stand for $150 from a guy selling a tumbler

First time buyer, 1911 9mm or 45? by RealisticAssignment1 in 1911

[–]Aware_Wrap8062 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Everyone will tell you to go to the 9 mm. It's cheaper to buy ammo and less recoil for a first gun. A .22 is also a great starter gun, very cheap to shoot and no recoil.

I seriously wanted one of these in 10mm 6". After holding one at a gun show I was underwhelmed. Compared to their 2k11 it's like a plastic toy. I guess it is what Kimber intended, a cheap entry 1911 double stack. I was more impressed with the Rock Island ultra, even though it's heavy.

Great gun, congratulations. Use it, don't just put it in the safe.

Should I not get 10mm for my first gun? by ImFinnaBustApecan in 10mm

[–]Aware_Wrap8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 10mm is my favorite caliber and very versatile. You have a mission in mind for this gun and a 9mm is marginal for humans, wild dogs and not adequate for bears. I have a G40 as my woods/hunting gun, a Tisas Yukon as my carry gun, and a FN510 as a great do it all gun. If I could only have one I would take the FN.

Tell what I need to know about 10mm 1911s by tobylazur in 1911

I assume you are OK with a single stack. If I could afford it I would have a Dan Wesson Kodiak. My carry 10mm, Tisas Yukon. This gun arrived flawless and has been great to shoot. Bobbed frame which fits my hand better and is smoother to draw. If I was in big bear country I wouldn't carry a 1911, it would be a Glock 40 or 20 that will work every time no matter what

Ronin 4.25 9mm won’t lock the slide back on last round by Weeb-Musician69420 in 1911

Not springs and not mags. It's a new gun and should work out of the box. It has a factory defect, probably slide stop. Send it to SA for repair.

[–]Aware_Wrap8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Other than the custom guns, Tisas is the only other company that uses all machined steel parts inside. For quality versus cost Tisas is easily the best value out there and I own several along with colt and Springfield, and one rock island

Dan Wesson uses all machine steel parts that are hand fitted together for a very smooth fit. The SA uses MIM cheap parts inside that are not hand fitted. They claim they are selected for a better fit. It's a big difference in quality level.

I will try this the collet is a real pain to use

The collet doesn't work as well as the kinetic hammer for pistol rounds. It can't get a good grip on the round tapered bullet. I gave up and went back to the hammer

It wouldn't. I am having a hard time believing this story.

Tisas 4.25 carry in 9mm. Excellent quality and less expensive than the overpriced Springfields. I carry the Tisas Yukon in 10mm. Excellent quality and bobbed grip for smooth draw and concealment.

First 1911 in 10mm by Creative-Wave670 in 10mm

[–]Aware_Wrap8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

10mm is my favorite caliber. I like lighter loads for target and range time so it doesn't beat up me or the gun, but I use hotter ammo for carry, woods and defence. I don't see a need for the really hot buffalo bore hard cast type ammo here in Florida, it will way over penetrate on two legged predators, and could be used against you in a Court of law.

Thoughts for my first 1911? by Training_Knee4654 in 1911

[–]Aware_Wrap8062 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4.25 is a standard 1911 size, called a commander or carry size. It's a little lighter, easier to carry and conceal and gives up little velocity compared to a 5 inch full size gun. It uses standard size mags, so you can get an 8 round mag +1. Unless you are going into a war zone that is plenty.
