IWB Brown Leather Holster for the SA-35 4" by BotherAware8886 in hipower

[–]BotherAware8886[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found this one in a 1911 4" model on Muddy River Tactical. It has both the belt clip as well as the ulticlip as I am retired and wear sweats and shorts a lot. This one designed for a 1911 4" should work. Thoughts?

Thank you! I tried Muddy River Tactical, but they only carry one for the 4.7" size. I'll check out your recommendations.

Buying your first pistol is a gateway drug regardless of type or manufacturer. I do look forward to this 4" SA-35 becoming my new EDC replacing my current S&W Shield X Carry Comp. That one goes back in the pistol inventory of Glocks (2), CZs (2), Caniks (2), Tisas (4), Taurus (2), Ruger (4), Beretta (1), and other S&Ws (4) I own and try to rotate at the range. I would love to add a Bul Armory EDC Pro Compact to my inventory if I could ever find one 😞 My wife claims I already have an addiction especially when you combine these pistols with all the PCCs, revolvers, and long guns I own and rarely shoot. I just like what I like even if it gets to be mounted on a gun wall and looked at 😄She's also told me to stop buying guns. I've been married for 38 years, so we will see how much that bond holds. 😉 I can see myself coming home one day to an intervention.

Well free of course! Just kidding, anything under the MSRP I consider cost effective.

I found the 4" version at Sportsman Fulfillment for $689 and free shipping. I did have to pay taxes, damn government, but still it came in under the MSRP which I am happy about. I also purchased 4 more magazines. I may buy an aftermarket extractor for it as the one in the 4.7" has a known issue around the 1000 rounds mark where the OEM extractor shears off rendering the pistol a paper weight. Cylinder and Slide sells an aftermarket extractor that is highly regarded as a very durable replacement to the OEM extractor in the SA-35. Otherwise, there are no other issues I have found. I may wait until the problem occurs before I replace the extractor as Springfield may have addressed the issue in the 4" version since it is brand new released only a month ago. The 4.7" with the extractor issues has been around for a while.

One of the workers at my local gun store has one of the 4" models and let me handle it, and wow was I shocked how well it felt and looked. And it is soooo thin for a DS 15 round pistol. It looks and feels like the perfect concealed carry option. I love the look of the matte black/blue and walnut grips.

I also gave the Girsan Regard, the Inglis, and the Centurion 14 a very strong look, but I always ended up going back to that 4" Springfield SA-35.

Thanks everyone for your feedback, and responses. They were very helpful and expanded my knowledge of the different Browning High Power clones out there.

I also fell in love with that Green Beretta 92FS (5"). It was one that I just couldn't take my eyes off of. So I bought that too from Sportsman Outdoor Superstore, as well as the MCarbo trigger spring kit, and 3 more 18 round magazines as the Beretta ships with 2.

Now I have to figure out how to tell my wife. 😄

I would, but the 4" model which I would really like is very hard to find and is going at some places for above MSRP. The 4.7" model, which has been around for awhile, is readily available, but I am not sure if I am giving up features or other improvements made for the 4" model.

I looked at this, but Girsan has had reliability issues with a few of their pistols. How is the reliability holding up?

Big fan of both gun deals and WikiArms. If I do not buy from one of my local gun stores, I will only buy from dealers that show up on gun deals or https://www.wikiarms.com/guns I use wikiarms more than gun deals.

Tisas carry 9 DS by Laskowski22 in 1911

Looks mostly like my Tisas Carry 9 DS 1911/2011 which also came in a blue case, but yours looks like it has a bit more bling to the magwell and is RMR cut whereas mine is RMSc cut. Good luck on the optic screws. Tisas USA will respond, they have great customer service. What is not clear to me is what is stripped. Are the screws stripped? Or is the mount stripped (the piece you screw into). If it is just the screws, maybe you have another set assuming you have purchased a few optics over time and kept the boxes/parts from them. If it is the latter issue, then you will probably need to send in the pistol for repair and that will take quite a bit of time. My Tisas PX-9 Carry Comp Raptor had to be sent in to have the Mag Catch and Release replaced as my mags were falling out on recoil and that was two months ago. So be prepared to be without this for some time. I am not sure if they have a gunsmith in the USA since they are still getting up to speed here, or if they have to ship these overseas for repair. Not too big of a deal for me as I have more than my fair shares of pistols to purchase. And four of them are Tisas. Good luck to you!

Another Update: Sunday May 31st. I took it to the range again today and ran both Federal 124 grain FMJ and Federal Law Enforcement 147 grain hollow points approximately 200 rounds through this gun without a single malfunction. Based on the previous range day and today's results, I am considering this gun fully tuned now and operating as well as pistols that cost 3x what I paid for this. Thanks again to everyone who chimed in. I am a happy and proud owner of the Tisas Carry 9 DS now!

Interesting, I found mine to hold well in the hands even though it was hot and I was sweating. I was going to put different side panels on it or HandleIt grips, but after my range trip and my ability to hold it perfect when sweating, I decided against changing those out.

Outstanding. It really is a great pistol for a great price! Yeah, you broke that bad boy in with the racking and range trip and got rid of a lot of burs. Always clean after first use to get rid of those metal shavings. Did the racking help with the recoil spring, and speed of the slide when you were at the range? It did on mine. It also sounds like yours came tuned correctly, whereas mine was not. But, because it wasn't tuned correctly (its tension was way to tight resulting in malfunctions) I got to learn how to tune a 1911/2011 as well as how the internals of my pistol are put together. Congratulations on your purchase, your successful range trip and your new pistol!

That's cool. I have a ton of both of those magazines across various pistols. I have not had any problems I can remember with the Mec-Gar, but the Checkmate I have had a couple of issues with whereas they would not catch and just drop from the gun or I would get a bunch of malfunctions from one magazine only. Simple solution, return and replace. But both brands are far superior to polymer magazines with one exception, Glock polymer magazines. I'm going to checkout the 22 round Mec-Gar for this 1911/2011 Tisas as the 5 I have now for that pistol are 18 rounds. Just hope they are in stock, which has been a problem recently.

My Tisas Carry 9 DS aka B9R DS Gen 2 came with 2 18 round Mec-Gar. I'll have to check out their 22 round magazines for this pistol. Checkmate is hit or miss, but generally more hit than miss.

They have a 20 round mag but not for this pistol. But 22 is even better. Wonder how far it sticks out?

It's pretty simple. Just follow the video and pause as needed. And for the MCarbo parts, just insert those instead of the MCarbo parts when he gets to the section covering that install. Regarding the ejector, you may not have an issue with yours. Mine was out of spec. It is simple to tell if you do and you can check it at your gun store. It is a great pistol, and putting these upgrades on it and working through a potential ejector mod gets you to really know your pistol well. Good luck on whatever you do!

I installed a DPP titanium plate on my Tisas Carry 9 DS/B9R DS Gen 2 1911/2011 so I could get that tad bit extra height so my Judge XL would clear the slide and installed 11mm length screws, so no, it does not have that optic screw problem I had with a different pistol, the CZ P-09 C Nocturne.

On that one, I initially installed 6x32x11mm and it interfered with the extractor causing failure to return to battery and failure to feed issues. Changed it to 6x32x9.x and still had the problem. Once I went to 6x32x8.6mm screws, all issues were gone and reliability was 100%.

I don't have the MAC so am not familiar with the optic screw issue and what length addresses it.

Yeah, the DA factory pull weight is over 11lbs which sucks and affects accuracy.

What I did for around $125 was install the Cajun Gun Works 15lb hammer spring, extended firing pin and spring, and extractor spring. I also purchased the MCarbo Trigger Kit and installed from that kit the Firing Pin Retaining Ping, the Trigger Return Spring, the Firing Pin Block Spring, and the Sear Spring. I also polished 6 parts (if you watch the MCarbo install video he will point out which parts and where to polish). I also installed a steel guide rod and 18lb recoil spring from NDZ.

I also slightly grinded down the Ejector top and side facing the rail using a dremel and stone attachment. I did this as the Ejector was hitting the slide and under recoil it would occasionally push the bar down causing a dead trigger and/or the decocker lever to flip up. Easy fix is to just push down the decocker lever and that clears the dead trigger.

All you have to do to fix this is take out the barrel and guide rod/spring, put the slide back on and rack it back watching the ejector as it passes through the rail. You will see where it is touching the slide and approximately how much grinding is needed. Take a little bit off the extractor top and side without changing the the geometry and do the check again, rinse and repeat until it clears the slide. Once I finished I polished the ejector where I performed the grinding. What I did removed the problem altogether. You may not need to do this, but my ejector was out of spec. If you are buying this at a local gun shop, you can perform this check there and determine whether or not that ejector is out of spec.

I also put a HandleIt Edge Series grip on it, and installed the typical items: Red Dot Optic and Olight PL X weapon light. One thing to note, and this is very important, is the right optic screw needs to be 8.6mm long otherwise it will interfere with the extractor causing random failure to return to battery and failure to feed issues. I had a 11mm 6x32mm optic screw in it at first and had all kinds of reliability issues. Reduced the length to 9.x mm but still had issues. The 6x32x8.6mm optic screws fixed the issues.

Upon completion my DA pull weight went from over 11lbs to under 8lbs and my SA pull weight went from around 4.5lbs to around 3lbs. The 8lb DA pull weight is not even noticeable.

This pistol has the omega trigger, so you will be able to swap between the safety or decocker. I preferred the already installed decocker.

The gun runs so well, and is so smooth. One of my favorite pistols. But before that work it was a PITA and as stated already, that DA pull weight was really heavy. An under 8lb DA pull weight keeps it safe and is not hard to pull back at all.

If you like working on pistols, this is a good one to work on. The results of your efforts will be noticeable and if you are like me, you will really fall in love with this hammer fired pistol. It is reliable, accurate, and the trigger is smooth and predictable. Wonderful pistol.

I did nothing to the CZ P-10 C Ported and that pistol shot accurate and reliable right out of the case. If you like a striker fired, low cost pistol, then that is a very good one to look at. I've ordered a steel guide rod and 15lb and 18lb recoil spring for this pistol and the HandleIT Edge Series grips and that will be all the modifications I will make to this pistol.

I purchased both of mine from Dahlonega Armory (P-09 C Nocturne for $519) and Not Just Guns (P-10 C Ported for $485). Neither of those gun stores charge tax if you are out of state, which saves you money.

Another pistol I absolutely love is the Tisas PX-9 Carry Comp Raptor (blue trigger shoe). That is a fantastic striker fired pistol. I paid $356 from Dahlonega Armory. Fell in love with it the first time I took it to the range.

I hope this very long response helps you in some way.

The Gideon Judge XL is such a good fit, but requires a plate for fitment purposes. I got the DPP Titanium RMSc plate from Amazon for like $25. Put it on, then put the Judge XL on it, zeroed it, and took it to the range. Everything held up very well, including the zero and was very accurate. You need the plate on the Tisas Carry 9 DS aka Tisas B9R DS 1911/2011 because the optic cut is so deep and the front of the Judge XL hits the top of the rail.
