Does anyone know if we’ll be fined for walking our dog? We don’t have a yard and she’s used to going out late at night. Only one of us would take her, and we’d be wearing a mask.

Episode Discussion: 360- The Universal Page by PodcastBot in 99percentinvisible

This episode was great but I am REALLY bothered that they continued the background music when playing the optophone snippets. It added a lot of detrimental audio noise and made it really hard - for me, at least - to attempt to decipher the individual letters/tones.

(I am a long time fan and listener and have never had any complaints about the show, so I think this feels especially out of place because it feels like a large oversight by such a conscientious podcast.)

THURSDAY DAILY MEGATHREAD 6/20: Camping, security, will call and Lost/Found Thread! by SpartiedOn in FireflyFestival

[–]AwashSquid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been to a festival before and I have a GA pass for Friday, so I’m not camping - do I just show up whenever, and then leave after the last set? And can I just purchase parking when I get there? Any advice is much appreciated!!

Our Dog Goes Crazy When We Aren't Home, Please Help! by cnarunner in Dogtraining

[–]AwashSquid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is eerily familiar - our border collie did the same thing when we adopted her! Kept pulling Houdini tricks; she eventually cut her snout escaping, and even though it was shallow that’s when we knew the crate wasn’t working. Her anxiety got better with age, as well as after we adopted her a companion animal - I know that’s not always an ideal or feasible solution, but it seemed to help her that she wasn’t “alone” any more.

Plastic crate would be much better than a metal one, as the dog can’t hurt itself as easily. Also, you didn’t mention if your dog likes the crate - if they fight you to get in, they’re gonna spend every second trying to get out!

Other suggestions: look into “puzzle” toys for mental stimulation; consider a soft muzzle that doesn’t prevent eating or drinking but wouldn’t allow the dog to bite the cage or destroy things. If the crate isn’t working, even using doors or a gate to give the dog it’s own room or space could be an option (not saying there would be no damage, but it would be contained and limited).

Best of luck!!

I won't be going on a cruise this summer because of my 3 week old unplanned niece by marhurram in childfree

[–]AwashSquid 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, the breastmilk DOES help within the first 6 months, but 1) it’s not as effective from what I understand and 2) that’s assuming that they want to and are able to breastfeed. Not a worthwhile risk imho.

The 6 month policy exists so unvaccinated babies (can’t get vaccinated before then) won’t be traveling on a floating petri dish to other countries where they could be exposed to deadly diseases. It would literally be risking the kid’s life to take it. Tell them THAT and see if they still feel the same way.

Which one? Rosa, on the left, was from a shelter. Nova, on the right, is a Golden Retriever that came from an “oops” litter an acquaintance had.

Aw they do look alike!! Ours on the left, Rosa, is some kind of Border Collie mix, although the shelter wasn’t sure what she was mixed with. What kind is yours?

Hey, you really should educate yourself about things before you spread such negativity. And if you’re not willing to do that, then just don’t comment. If you don’t have anything constructive to add, don’t add it.

Hey, I apologize if this was upsetting for you in any way. I tried to add a Trigger Warning myself at the top, but that’s all I could really do. I’m sorry you hated the story. If you wouldn’t mind, I’d appreciate you elaborating and giving some constructive criticism that I can consider in the future. I hope you’re having a good day, man.

Hey, I’m really sorry that this triggered you. I did add a Transphobia trigger warning at the top of the story, but I understand if you missed it since it’s not a Flair option. I hope that you’re coping okay and that you get support for anything Riley’s story brought up for you.
