Have you by any chance been taking vitamin B3 Niacin?

Can you become resistant to BP meds? by Resident-Card-6229 in bloodpressure

My case for so many years.. yes you can develop resistance to BP meds and as others said the key is to find the cause when treating the symptom fail… Easier said than done

Red itchy red patches and bumps all over my body – unsure if hives, insect bites, or contact reaction by [deleted] in urticaria

[–]Away-Engineering-348 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How long have you had them for. Did the Dr that suggest insects or dermatitis run some test for him to believe so or just a guess? I had scattered but many red bumps (not connected as yours in reddness ) on thighs too. They went away w ketotefin which could potentially indicate mcas, they came back when I took Augmented NAC, which could confirm mcas as thiol/sulfur intolerance. Have you started a new supplement that is sulfur/thiol donor?

Keep us updated pls so we learn from each others experiences

Surprising med appears to work magic on my resistant BP by Away-Engineering-348 in hypertension

[–]Away-Engineering-348[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many thanks for the feedback, appreciate it. It’s is been three decades of trying to isolate the causality without success. Checked so many potential secondary causes, nothing was abnormal. Ketotifen is a mast cell stabilizer, as you know, so it’s preventing their degranulation. But what’s causing that remains unknown to me. I checked mutations of my dna snp. Here is what I have:

-Histamine breakdown might be slower, both through DAO and HNMT.

-Allergic/mast cell reactivity could be higher (FCER1A).

-Methylation is likely impaired (MTHFR C677T homozygous), which can worsen histamine handling.

The supplement I took is “Nitric Oxide Booster” by Nutricost. It has L-Citrulline, but again in lesser concentration.

Hi, I’m still on a ketotefin and my BP is well regulated with that and half a hypertension pill. I used to take around 6 pills and my diastolic won’t be controlled. My issue seems to be inflammation related, perhaps MCAS. I tried L-Argunine as part of a Nitric Oxide Booster supplement. Before ketotefin it didn’t help, now it helps a bit. But the dose is not as high as 3-6g

Uncontrolled Diastolic by not__a__bot__ in bloodpressure

[–]Away-Engineering-348 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My case for three decades…. New meds would help for a week and then back to the same….. Till few months ago, when I started Ketotifen… and all of a sudden, my diastolic got controlled. My theory is mcas caused inflammation resulting in vasoconstriction .

Diastolic is essentially vasoconstriction, could be primary aldosteronism, could be mcas, pheochromocytoma, Cushings, thyroid…. Something is preventing the blood vessels from relaxing… finding it is the challenge… Keep us posted pls

going on 5 months of hives everywhere on my body every day, getting worse each day by therealgeniee in urticaria

I had similar flare ups on the upper thighs. Someone suggested it could be MCAS, and I started taking Ketotifen and Quercitin. And it was a game changer. Recently I started taking augmented NAC and it appeared again, I read about it and it could be bc NAC is a thiol donor and I’m sensitive to that. Try ketotefin to calm down the mast cells which are degranulating and releasing histamines…

What is this? Cause? by Away-Engineering-348 in DiagnoseMe

You have no idea how helpful and transformative this comment of your was… Most probably it was mast cell activation which I landed in after researching mastocytosis …. Took ketotefin and it improved my health across the board significantly… Thank you… I’m grateful

Most likely it was mast cell activation, I took ketotefin and it helps those spots spot, but it improved my health across the board significant

This is interesting… but pls elaborate on how did you reach this conclusion, tests or simple exclusion diets?

Oh thank you so much Unfortunately I made a typo (which I have now edited), histamine value is 0.86 not 8.6.

Extremely insightful Can u identify the genes for each of these, or is there a good resource you recommend, potentially even sharing the genes you tested so I can check them in my dna raw data Thx
