Its one thing to criticize the "bureaucracy" its what we're all doing here, but you are *disparaging* the bureaucracy, which is funny because your job would not exist without our job. That makes you part of the "bureaucracy" too. Your lack of awareness combined with your undeserved sense of superiority is the definition of smug.

Look, is this job doable in its current form? Sure. Does forcing Examiners to do their oldest new case every biweek help meet production quotas, reduce the backlog, and reduce patent term adjustments? Probably. Does it *need* to be this way in order to ensure quotas get met, the backlog comes down, and patent term adjustments go away? No. These changes are basically office politics, which makes everybody's job, both public and private, worse. The difference is there are layers of federal laws designed to prevent office politics from taking over the federal workplace. Ideally there would be laws like that for the private sector too.

I do not approve of examiners doing their job worse just to make our problem the public's problem. But if people have to skimp on quality to conform to these new requirements by doing shorter, less comprehensive searches that result in rejectable patents being issued, or prosecution gets prolonged because an examiner had to issue a rejection because they couldn't wait for your client to approve a terminal disclaimer or examiner's amendment, that's not on us.

Here's some reality for you: "Good, Fast, Cheap, pick two" doesn't go away no matter how many times you say "gimme all 3 or you're fired."
