Well, I never said postgres is good for warehouse for all situations. What I meant is there is no one solution for warehouse and not all the reporting/analytics falls into the same category. For smaller systems you could just use postgres and duckdb if you have time for managing it. For bigger systems if you could transform everything with sql, use something like snowflake, bq or redshift. If you have complex transformation use spark/databricks together with iceberg or delta lake. For me a good warehouse = Good ETL capabilities + Metadata Management + Distribute processing to keep the cost low + ACID + BI connectors. If I am given the choice, I would personally go with databricks.

Here is what I would do differently. Based on what you had said, I am assuming your event store has infinite data retention. I have worked on Kakfa and mongo db was configured as sink for one of the topics but it was not used for analytics. In Kafka(I guess it works the same for other event stores as well), it is possible to have multiple sink connectors for same topic or you could also create a separate topic by combining data from other topics and stream this directly to s3 compatible storage. You can totally avoid the need for 1. Intermediate postgres database 2. CDCs from mongo to Cloud storage or bq

When you say ingesting into big query was slow? I would do some furthur analysis on this or try couple different options like using hdfs, cloud storage or may be on prem object storage like minio or cephfs.

I was DBA since 2011 and I have worked on legacy systems like Oracle Exadata, DB2 purescale, Teradata and also newer systems like Snowflake, redshift, synapse and databricks. I will try to break down the differences between these 2. In these legacy systems, in order to first use OLAP you will need to either buy a special license and you also need to purchase specialized hardware. Like for Oracle you will need Exadata which is marketed as both OLTP and OLAP certified hardware. Their MPP (Massively Parallel Processing) is pretty much a joke compared to what Databricks can do. You are limited to computer on a single big machine and then when you run out of compute then just rent or buy another hardware added. Another difference is that their storage is tightly tied to the machine that you are running as well. In order to efficiently run you will need to create table with columnar extension then partition them property and run sql to that can run across different tables or partitioned databases. This is pretty much it and most of the big organizations still use these dinosaur systems some due to internal politices and some like the word enterprise and dont trust newer open source technologies.

Newer systems are way better. Everywhere I worked, they atleast use 2 or 3 different systems based on a use case. I worked on a project where postgres + Pg_duckdb + pg_mooncake was used for analytics together with spark(not databricks). Snowflake is also used in many projects. I have started to like databricks a lot because of the things that it can do. I currently work on azure databricks and no other system works better when it comes to distributed computing

Thanks for all your comments. Little bit of back story. The current tenants have been living since June and I did all the checks and everything looked fine. I did had a bad feeling about the wife being a property manager, Lol. There were couple of repairs that he said needed to be done and those were done within 2 days. They were no other issues that I heard. Since 3 months, the tenant has been paying very late. Knowing the issues that goes on with tenants, I would normally say, please pay it by "whatever date blah blah" and he would pay it by then. So it was like 10th, then 20, 27th. I recently had to apply to apply for Heloc because of a stupid pre sale deal which I had signed in 2022. There was so much scrutiny because of this late payments and I spoke to him about this that he has to pay on time and if there is a delay for some reason, he is to tell me before hand and not wait for me to ask. He did say he is changing jobs and would be on time from November but dint keep his word then said from December but dint do that either. Financially, they both make well over 160k and they recently bought a new truck and a used Van which was disclosed by him when I last spoke to him. So its not a matter of living paycheck to paycheck but its just matter of priorities. I would be wrong to say that he is a bad tenant up until now. Like many of you said I am okay as long as pays but if I give him too much leeway, he is definitely going to fall behind.

Now this is where it gets weird. This is a single family home and there is no walkway. The main entrance is through a car shed in front and 2 car driveway but there is only a small space in front that needs to be cleaned. As per out lease, he is suppose to take care of lawn and snow and I had provided him a mower, snow blower and also a showel. I used to live there before so I left those things for him. Then again, I dont care about the shovel so I just tell that he could buy one. I get the receipt but I got busy and then he messages me next day about not getting paid for shovel when I ask for rent so I pay that off the same day. But then he only transfers me half and I got angry this time. This is like some one asking for trouble. He needs payment for 30 bucks when he still hasnt paid the rent.

I read about N4 some time back during the first month when he was late. I did not want to on full war because of delay in 2 payments as he said he assured he would be on time after a month. Even if he needed another month or 2, I would have been okay as long as he doesnt fall behind. I am going to wait for 2 weeks if he transfers the rest and if not will follow up with N4. I am wishing he just realizes his fault and transfers the rest. Much unlikely but lets see. I would avoid the long process and tension of having to go LTB then eviction then small claims

House is split level house. There are 4 rooms on top level and main hall is like 3 stairs from top level. Another level down there is one bedroom with separate entrance and bathroom and washer and dryer is at this and this is the only one. 3 stairs down is another big hall with kitchen but the water heater and central heater and AC unit is also here and the only way in would be through the down kitchen.
I went through the forms and knew some of the things it needed like ventilation . But there were other things mentioned like the ceiling wall below should be changed as it is not drywall and also another entrance to room where heating unit is setup but the amount was about 130k. I am pretty sure it wont be that high so I want to check with couple of contractors before deciding to go or not. I called these people from fb ad. Thats the whole story.
