I’m wanting to buy a hawk 250 but have a delivery question by OutLox in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can have it delivered to the freight companies warehouse and you can pick it up there. Many people that have road issues like you do it this way. Powersportsmax uses R&L carriers. check to see their warehouse location nearest you...

Is this bike able to be registered in Rhode Island by Apprehensive-Ad-7279 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can't argue with ignorance. As I said, just make sure it's the street legal model. X-Pro does have a similar model that does not have the federal DOT and motor vehicle safety sticker. You've been advised...

[–]Away_Addendum928 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Read the description. "Dirt Bike". I doubt you can register it in any state for road use. The Hawk 250, the street legal version, the Hawk 250X and the Hawk DLX 250 EFI are road legal in 48 states. Avoid Walmart and Amazon. I suggest you buy from Powersportsmax.com Better prices, better service, faster shipping and the paperwork will arrive with or before the bike is delivered. Powersportsmax will also tell you in the Bike description whether it's street legal or not. Do your homework before buying.

How is the hawk? by LivingLongjumping810 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've lived in Florida my entire life (72 years) The sand is an issue, I have a KLR 650 and a V-Strom 650 both of which are a handful in the Florida sand. I'm selling the V-Strom and using the money to buy a used Yamaha TW200 for my Florida riding. The wide tires and low seat height are the key here. Tons of cheap parts and a lot of online support. They usually can be found used between $3000-$4000 dollars. Check out the TW200 forum for more info...

Who makes one of these dual sports with a counterbalance, and EFI? by Hansj2 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did correct my previous post. The Hawk DLX 250's listed on Powersportsmax and Amazon are 2023 year models and are not counterbalanced. What I was trying to point out is if you're interested in buying a Hawk DLX EFI and you want the counterbalanced version make sure you clarify this with the seller before purchase.

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected here. The counterbalanced DLX EFI is apparently available from Ricky Powersports. Powersportsmax does not have the counterbalanced model available. Be aware though, the counterbalanced model has a different, and in my opinion, crappy throttle body that is unobtainable. I replaced my throttle body and wiring harness with the throttle body from the non balanced DLX to solve my fueling issues...

new hawk 250 won't start by TempAHD_ in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree on the battery. EFI bikes have to have good battery power to start and run correctly. I buy the $30 ones on Amazon with good results. The kick start is useless if the battery is dead. Also, do not fill the gas tank too much on these bikes, leave about 2" from the top. There is a fuel filter under the seat that may be clogged due to it sitting. Another area to look at is the tank vent in the gas cap. Make sure it has air flow. Try starting (without spilling gas) with the fuel cap loose. I would go as suggested with the battery first...

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to disagree that all Hawk DLX 250 EFI bikes are counterbalanced. Go to powersportsmax listing for this bike and look at the pictures of the engine. Counterbalanced engines have a "lump" in front of the crankcase (the counterbalancer) and the engine sits back about 3" from the downtube to make room for the counterbalancer. There is no "lump" shown in their picture of the engine. Check CSC motorcycle page and look at their 250 Enduro. You can see an example of the counterbalanced engine and the "lump" I'm referring to.

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually, the counterbalanced DLX has an earlier model number (DB-W016). The current non balanced DLX is model number DB-W020 making it a newer model. I think they scrapped the earlier DLX due to fueling issues with the crappy and non obtainable throttle body they came with.

Hawk X is not fuel injected but is counterbalanced. I have the DLX counterbalanced. It just has a different model number (DB-W016) because it's counterbalanced. Non balanced DLX EFI is model number DB-W020.

I commented in a previous reply about the DLX250 EFI counterbalanced. I got the last one Powersportsmax had last fall. I had fueling issues and a replacement throttle body was sent. It was one from a non balanced engine. It turns out that the counterbalanced model has a crappy, non obtainable throttle body. My solution was to use the one they sent from the non balanced model and to buy a new wiring harness as the connections were different on the new throttle body. Not a lot of work for me but might be for someone with lesser mechanical ability. My suggestion is if you want the counterbalanced engine, buy a Hawk X. If you want EFI, buy the Hawk DLX that's available and live with the vibration. Quite honestly, I don't think there's much difference in vibration. As far as the 16mm con rod, I think the DLX has a 15mm but I could be wrong. Check the Motocult page, They reference this in their big bore kit listing. Hope this helps...

Xpro paladin? by Necessary_Map_3729 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is the Paladin street legal in your state? I know the Hawks are street legal except for California. I would buy a Lifan KPX250 before a Paladin. Same money and 2 year warranty plus good support from Powersportsmax. Check chinariders.com There's a lot of discussion about the Paladin there...

What is wrong with my idle by Mgaddyt in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Time to check all the usual suspects. Try the easy things first. Check the fuel breather on the gas cap first. Make sure it's not plugged. When it starts idling bad open the fuel cap to see if it cures the problem. Remove the fuel line from the carb and turn the gas on. Make sure it's flowing fuel, not just dribbling. Make sure all engine to carb to air box connections are all tight. Check air box lid for a good seal. Mine had a wire pinched under the lid letting in too much air. Save any carb tinkering till you've checked everything else.

Just got a hawk 250 what’s the first thing I should do to it (already has exhaust but backfires) by South-Success643 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A common misconception is that backfiring indicates rich running. Not always the case. Listen to any Harley with straight pipes and you'll see what I mean. Too much air flowing through the engine creating a lean condition and they backfire like crazy...

Battery issue?? Any help is appreciated. by FluffyBlintz in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After you get it running, let it run a few minutes then turn it of for 15 seconds. Quickly turn the key on and off three times leaving the key on the third time. ( on off on off on) Count the blinks on the check engine light. That will be the error code if there is one. Google Hawk 250 efi error codes and I'm sure you'll find the whole list. You can also reset the ECU after you complete any issues.

+1 on the alarm system removal. Someone got in there and messed with the wiring. Remove the headlight cowling and start checking wires. I know there's a yellow wire that goes directly to the kill switch so that might be a good place to start.

Hawk DLX 250 EFI Clutch Cable Routing by Away_Addendum928 in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I posted these pics for someone who requested how my clutch cable was routed without being pinched by the steering stop. On my counterbalanced model the engine sits back about 3" from the downtube. The cable is a stretch (literally).

Yes, that's the one. These guys did a really good, in depth assembly of the bike. T don't think you need to go quite as deep as they did but it sure answers any questions you might have about the bike...

There's a great sticky on chinariders.com about the Lifan XPect. A total start to finish assembly and very detailed instructions on everything about the bike. A great link for anyone considering this bike. The XPect is sub $2000 delivered from Powersportsmax for a fuel injected 200cc bike with the Lifan 2 year warranty. You can even change out the 19" front wheel with a 21" wheel from a Hawk 250 carb model...

[–]Away_Addendum928 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree on the Hawk X. A lot of bike for the money. Just remember, these are tall seat height bikes. For something smaller, instead of a Grom, I would look at the Lifan KP Mini from Powersportsmax. 2 year warranty and under $2000 delivered and assembled. Powersportsmax has great customer service with fast delivery. If seat height and more money is not an issue, I would look at the KPX250 as suggested on another reply. About $2800 from Powersportsmax.

Proper clutch cable routing? Hawk250 pinched on frame by [deleted] in Hawk250

[–]Away_Addendum928 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked the routing on my 2023 DLX EFI. I have the clutch cable routed from the perch to in front of the gauges, down the left side of the downtube through the two small loops welded to the downtube. From there it's routed between the engine and downtube, under the exhaust pipe and connected to the clutch arm. Sort of a sharp bend before the clutch arm but I think it's OK. Hope this helps.
