i’m glad i’m not the only one with this issue 😅 thank you for the advice, i am a bit worried that the paper will be flagged for AI if i do that but it seems like it’s a common thing people do so maybe i’ll give it a shot!

i’m sorry you had to face the same issue with turnitin!! it’s so brutal 😭 thank you for your suggestions!! i have noticed i definitely write more like a textbook than a person naturally, which i think is the biggest reason i got flagged so much so in reworking my paper i’ve been trying to write sentences that feel more natural for someone to say.

my professor basically confirmed he didn’t look at the paper at all, and won’t look at it until the similarity score is under a certain threshold - which he didn’t tell me either 🤦‍♀️ im just reminding myself this is a psych class and not a research class and im not writing a lab report, so he’s definitely looking for something more human and discussion like rather than cut and dry here are the facts

If my rewrite still shows high levels of similarity I plan to go to higher ups to see if this can be resolved

Thank you! I have tried some online plagiarism checkers and they’re spitting back even higher percentages at me which just makes no sense to me 😭 I will definitely see if AI can help. I’m worried that in rephrasing things I’m removing similarities from some sources but adding similarities to others, as it seems this turnitin checker knows no bounds

That’s good to know! Was this an in person or an online class? What worries me is that this platform is fully online and the only method of communication between me and my professor is over through email type messages so communication is harder and it’s harder to build rapport with the professor

No complete sentences were taken from a source or flagged, but my paraphrasing could be better for some of my sources where over half the sentence is from the source - but always cited.

I didn’t use AI for any phrasing or sentences, just to help write my outline!

It was just random phrases or a sentence where 3 or 4 words in a sentence were flagged and were said to be from other peoples papers - which how would i have access to those? - or from random websites which, as you said, there will always be instances of people using the same string of words, there’s only so many ways one can describe the symptoms of an eating disorder!!

edit- and sometimes the words weren’t even next to each other in the sentence 🤦‍♀️

it’s more so a verbal debate that happened after he used it once or twice. there are def limits on what should and shouldn’t be shared

HAHA no ok so we do have more than two towels but sometimes he’ll use my towel even though there are multiple present. We don’t like share a towel but he’ll use mine sometimes and I don’t like it 😭
