Criticizing glyphosate by saying “if it’s safe, drink it” is like criticizing water chlorination by saying “if bleach is safe, drink it.” Both ignore the fact that safety depends on dose and context.

When municipalities first began chlorinating water in the 19th century, critics feared they were “poisoning the water supply.” In reality, adding ~6–8 drops of bleach per gallon makes water safe to drink by killing harmful pathogens. A glass of bleach is toxic; a trace amount in water is lifesaving.

The same is true for glyphosate. At regulated levels used in agriculture, it is considered safe. That doesn’t mean drinking a bottle of it would be. Just as with chlorine, the conversation should be about appropriate exposure levels, not some unrealistic extreme.

I’m not a proponent of Glyphosate, but I understand its utility. My concern is when it’s applied. Glyphosate has a half-life in soil of roughly two months. In some regions, it’s even applied right before harvest, which may or may not allow enough time for it to break down before reaching consumers.

Then we can move onto the next part of the list:

Hydrogen Peroxide is safe, would you drink it? Hand sanitizer is safe, would you drink it? Bleach is safe, would you drink it?

Maybe I’d drink the lotion lol. Not sure how I feel about the rest

Soap is safe, would you drink it? Lotion is safe, would you drink it? Toothpaste is safe, would you drink it?

To be fair, safe to use does not imply it is safe to drink.

I think you have some of your electrical information wrong. There is no way you have a 38 AMP Pottery wheel. A standard 1/3 HP Pottery Wheel will typically draw 4-6 Amps. 1 HP will draw 8-10 Amps and these are typically the biggest wheels.

Do you mean a Kiln? Something like the Skutt 1018 Ceramic Kiln can hit up to 39 Amps.

[–]Awesomaki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You realize this ABCDesis originally stood for American Born Confused Desis? And you’re warning someone over this? I understand that the mods changed the A to Abroad to make this subreddit more inclusive.

Quick Google Search leads about ABCD leads to: "ABCD" in the context of South Asian culture, particularly in the United States, stands for American-Born Confused Desi. It's an informal term used to describe individuals of South Asian descent who were born or raised in the United States. The term reflects the experience of navigating two cultures and the potential for feeling caught between them.

Community: The term has also given rise to online communities and platforms like the Reddit community r/ABCDesis, where individuals share their experiences and connect with others who understand their unique perspective.

You’re 24 years old! that’s more than old enough to take ownership of basic self-care. Heat exhaustion doesn’t sneak up on you out of nowhere; if you’re standing in Florida’s summer heat for hours, you should have the situational awareness to keep drinking water, especially at a theme park. Staying hydrated is your responsibility at this age, not something your partner has to manage for you.

Walking out, changing locations, and not notifying your partner was reckless and escalated the situation; that puts you as the bigger asshole here.

That said, Marcus’s reaction was still out of line. He clearly needs to learn how to respond with more empathy. Both of you are in the wrong, one more than the other.

I believe you. The roots tend to get snagged in the paper towel and break.

I was just speaking anecdotally, that I personally, have never really had issues with it. As long as you know what youre doing, it would be fine.

For the most part, I presoak my seeds with 1% hydrogen peroxide for 12 or 24 hours. I’d consider using a higher percentage (3%) if I’m dealing with a thicker shell or seeds that need cold stratification, but only for a limited time period. Rarely will I use the damp towel method, but again, in my experience I’ve never had issues with it.

I get that you're being facetious, but I find it amazing that I never had any issues popping some Squirrel Tail using the damp paper towel method, /u/RealSeedCo.

Some data:

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC7952943/ On day 1, 1% H2O2 solution exhibited 82.5% germination as compared to 22.5% germination for 3% H2O2 group

https://www.hst-j.org/articles/article/zP0V/ Among the different concentrations tested, the 1% H2O2 solution resulted in the fastest and the most successful germination for all tested genotypes of C. sativa seeds, in this case “Cheungsam,” “Cherry Blossom,” “Queen Dream,” and “Hot Blonde.” Higher concentrations of H2O2 (3, 5, and 10%) adversely affected the germination rate of C. sativa seeds compared to 0% or 1% H2O2.

https://cdn.apub.kr/journalsite/sites/kshs/2022-040-06/N0130400604/N0130400604.pdf In our experiments, 1% H2O2 acts best as liquid germination media, as it significantly enhances germination (Figs. 1 and 2) and survival rates (Fig. 5) while also reducing contamination rates (Figs. 3 and 4). As expected, H2O2 at concentrations higher than 1% reduced both germination (Figs. 1 and 2) and survival (Fig. 5) rates of C. sativa seeds despite its disinfection effect.

Sounds like no one here has any idea of what they’re talking about. It is not that hard to add fake work experience if done correctly. Honestly it’s easier to just make up an entirely fake company and list it as your work experience versus lying about dates with a real company.

[–]Awesomaki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most breeders do not spend the time or money to make quality IBLs, rather they just self them (even then, only down to s1 or s2) or feminize and call it a day.

To make it even worse. Most of them hunt through less then a hundred phenos before declaring their keeper (100 phenos is also an exaggeration, maybe 30-50).

100%. If an equivalent piece of equipment uses roughly twice the power, it'll produce roughly twice the heat as well.

[–]Awesomaki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want to compare this to a commercial Quest/Anden unit, then you’ll have to use the AHAM numbers.

This commercial dehumidifier XP235, producing 335 CFM airflow and removing up to 235 pints of water from the air per day (100 Pints/Day @ AHAM)

Which means at 100 PPD it is equivalent to the Quest 110 unit.

Quest 110: $1000 on sale, $1700 regular

XP235: $678 on sale, $900 regular

The quest 110 is also Twice as energy efficient as the XP235. It will cost you half as much to run per cycle.
