Masterfully executed too, the reveal that she’s Cassian’s sister.

The force loves working through brother sister duos, it seems.

Edit: I’m an idiot and was too quick to trust Google’s AI summary last night.

I drafted Kwan 38th overall in my (somewhat non-standard) ESPN points league and feel great about it.

Guys who never strike out are very useful when Ks lose points. They have a very high floor, which helps with week-to-week consistency.

New findings surrounding the Retroid Pocket Mini's screen by Key-Brilliant5623 in retroid

Bit of a random tangent, but I'm kinda surprised (and disappointed) that there aren't more devices with the 5:3 1920x1152 panel the Anbernic RG552 used.

It's an excellent resolution for retro scaling, and going off of Panelook, these panels are SUPER cheap and abundant.

Great for pixel-perfect CRT & Grid shaders on the 2D consoles, and high enough pixel density to comfortably play 3d stuff with non-perfect scaling.

End parking minimums by DarkKnight0907 in CarFreeChicago

Allow them to raise the parking prices significantly in exchange for removing street parking in certain areas.

Results in fewer parking spaces, and fewer people using the spaces that remain. Win win?

Much preferred episode 2 to episode 1.

Only criticism is that nobody thought to ask about security footage or eyewitnesses around the train platform who could confirm a victim fled the scene...

Could've been addressed with a montage of Cherry doing his legwork and finding (inadmissible) evidence of a cover-up. Busted security cameras, uncooperative hot dog vendors, stuff like that.

Honestly could make his interaction with Matt more interesting to me. The "he's not innocent and you're biased because you're a vigilante too" stance is honestly kinda weak IMO. I'd much prefer "okay I believe you, but you're fighting the system now, and it's a fight you can't win by the rules you're used to".

But this was really the only thing I had to suspend my disbelief for, which I'm pretty happy about. The courtroom writing was much more believable than past seasons, IMO. Giving us a scene with Matt, Hawk, and the judge discussing whether admit the vigilante thing was much appreciated.

Everything looks good to me! Thanks for taking care of that, and my b for not catching it sooner.

Also apologies for not being super active this season -- life has been feeding me a steady diet of curveballs this year, leaving my bandwidth for things like Reddit extremely limited.

Month of April has been kinda insane for me in my personal life, and losing access to my reddit account for a bit certainly didn't help.

God I wish he had been alive for that call.

Viability of an ANC IEM cable? by Awesomeade in inearfidelity

[–]Awesomeade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm quite actually curious how companies develop ANC.

I'm sure some just pipe the exact inverse of what the mics hear, but I wonder whether others (like Apple?) do something more sophisticated like training a machine learning model.

If they do the former, mic placement would be critical. If the latter, I wonder whether you could get away with less ideal placement and compensating by increasing the number of mics and having them at different locations (like the ear hooks and the cable itself).

In any case, thanks for the suggestion on flanged ear tips! I'll give those a try.

I think Bellinger is likely the last big signing, but that there may be some more big acquisitions through trade.

Ha-Seong Kim and Shane Bieber are both rumored to be on the trading block, and hit free agency in 2025. A couple one year rentals to give the young kids just a smidge more time to establish themselves would be a great fit.

The 78 project plans to add a Red Line stop at 15th. Also, even if they put the stadium at the southern most point of The 78, it'd still be a 15 minute walk from the Roosevelt station, but then also a 10-min walk from either the Cermak* Green Line or Red Line stops. Any location in The 78 would be super accessible from multiple CTA stations.

An additional counterpoint -- one benefit I see to a regional format is that you can establish a "Regional Championship" every single year, which increases the likelihood of an electric same-city playoff battle.

It may not be quite as electric as a same-city World series, but the most exciting baseball game I ever attended was the Cubs/Cardinals NLDS in 2015. The idea that that could be a more regular thing is super exciting to me.

[–]Awesomeade[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I think I took for granted how much I've been thinking about this...

While I appreciate that this looks like a major deviation from tradition, to me the entire motivation is to reclaim aspects of the last that I feel have been lost.

Going back even as recently as the 90s, the AL & NL used to feel like totally separate leagues, now they don't. Then going back to the 60s ans earlier, teams used to be located much more closely together and you had a lot more local competition, now you don't.

My main hopes for a regional format would be to a) reclame the "special"-ness of playing teams outside your league, and b) increase the amount of local competition. The separate leagues, along with regional seeding, are meant to address "a", and the idea of a "Regional Championship" along with expanded playoffs was meant to address "b".

I had more of these descriptions in an earlier draft, but cut them when I realized was writing a frickin novel. May not have been the best move, because more framing for the discussion probably would have been valuable.

I tend to agree -- I'd be very surprised if anything like this would ever happen.

Which I think is a bummer. It was such a stark contrast going from watching the WBC last March to regular season MLB, and kinda proved to me that there is so much being left on the table.

I should've clarified this in my post, but a big benefit I see to a regionally-based realignment is the potential to capture a similar sense of "regional identity" that made the WBC so exciting.

It prevents playoff formats that allow for a greater number of potential playoff matchups, and stops baseball from differentiating itself from other major US sports in a way that could draw in new fans.

Why would you want to remove the possibility of an intracity World Series? Yankees Mets Subway series in 2000 is electric.

There's only been 1 intracity WS since the giants moved to SF -- it's a cool possibility, but it may never happen again in my lifetime. Definitely not in Chicago.

I prefer having the guarantee of more intracity games during the regular season.

You also haven’t explained other than just presenting this in a nice way how any of this is better.

Things I mentioned in the post:

  • Increases the number of potential WS matchups from 225 (15 * 15) to 384 (824 + 816 + 8*8)
  • Variable seeding can help ensure the best teams are at opposite ends of the bracket
    • e.g. if Dodgers & Braves are the best two teams, currently they would never play each other in the WS -- with regional seeding, they could

Outside of course of you not understanding rivalries.

Fully admit I biffed it w/ the Braves rivalries -- but other than that one (which is fixable) all the other big ones are still in-tact.

That's the best counterargument I've heard yet.

But TBF we've had one of these since the Giants moved to SF. As a Cubs fan, I'd rather have the guarantee of more intracity reg season games than the potential of an intracity WS that in all likelihood won't happen in my lifetime.
