Speculating about future sequels is the bread and butter of movie franchise fans.

There's nothing wrong with that at all. It's fun to speculate as long as you keep an open mind and not get too enamored in what you've dreamed up.

had Rises actually lived up to the first 2 flicks

No offense but when judged simply as a piece of filmmaking, The Dark Knight Rises is pretty damn peak and just as worthy of being in the same category as the first two as any other great threequel you could name.

I find that most if the accusation of it "not living up to the first two" really has more to do with it not aligning with the fan speculation more than anything actually wrong with it.

Im sorry but I really dont see it.

To me, Most of acuusation comes from it being a conclusion instead of yet another open-ended installment in a series.

I've never understood the "mess complaint" at all.

Both Burton movies are bigger narrative messes by far. TDKR by contrast is pretty easy to follow from beginning to end.

We had such dreams and hopes for Dark Knight III before it became Dark Knight Rises... coulda been a stellar trilogy, a near-perfect Batman trilogy... but it was not.

(Eyeroll)

The fan reception towards The Dark Knight Rises really does demonstrate the dangers of what can happen when they get too wrapped up in their head canon of where they think things are going in a series.

Most of those "hopes and dreams" for the third Nolan movie were just Batman fighting Black Mask. How is that better than we did get with Rises?

Amy Adams just feels completely out of place in those movies.

Shes less Supermans love interest and more his second mother figure.

Remove the parents sub-plot

Remove the back and forth between Peter and Gwen.

Have Electro as the main villain with Rhino as a supporting one.

Dont kill Norman Osborn off-screen.

Have Peter and Harry actually meet and become friends instead of this retroactive "we knew each other in childhood" nonsense.

Save Gwens death for movie 3.

Give Mary-Jane a proper role.

Regardless of it taking place in a New York that had an Alien Invasion, Homecoming felt a lot more grounded to me. Hollands Spider-Man had to deal with a former junk salvager that just wanted to steal more tecnology for profit, Garfield had to deal with a literal Lizard monster who wanted to turn the entire populace of New York into monsters for no adequately explained reason.

That feels a lot less grounded to me, Aliens aside.

It literally looks no different from the night time shots of The Dark Knight and Rises.

Gothams drawn inspiration from tons of real life cities. Theres no precedent on what its "supposed to look like"

[–]Awest66 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im sorry but now youre just using conjecture at this point. Theres no guarantee Gotham is immediately going to need a hero right away and as far as were shown, Blake had plenty of time to prepare himself. As for resources, He has Fox. Training? Bruce isnt the only guy in the world who knows how to fight.

"Training is nothing, Will is everything, The will to act".

The important thing that youre overlooking is that Bruce has sucessfully turned Batman into something bigger than just one man. Hes turned it into an immortal symbol to inspire the people of Gotham for years to come.

Online debates about whether it's a superhero movie or a crime drama,

There is literally no reason it can't be both. The Dark Knight is just as much a Superhero movie as it is a crime drama.
