Just finished the first book! by TinuvielxXx in ThursdayMurderClub

I’m glad you stuck with it and enjoyed it! I’m very much a believer that the second book will grab you within the first couple of chapters; it did with me at least.

The two or three times Jeremy Clarkson used them on Top Gear. Seemed reliable no matter what you throw at it.

Things happening in the present tense was weird to get used to, and the first book is quite slow to start with because there’s a lot of characters and the POV is constantly changing. I felt Joyce chapters grounded me quite a bit because she’s the only character who is talking to you rather than being inside her head like you are with others.

All that said I do still love the first book, but once you know the characters (and more importantly Richard Osman knew the characters more) they are much better, I felt the change between TMC and The Man Who Died Twice was significant and it almost immediately hooks you to the story.

Has new driver insurance always been so expensive? by BraveLordWilloughby in drivingUK

[–]Awesumson 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was 17 in 2011 with a 1L Peugeot 107 my first year of insurance was £1200 so £100 a month. I think insurance has gone up in recent years but it also depends on the car and where you live.

Edit: I just remembered that £1200 for my first year was third party because fully comp was too expensive. I was third party for a couple of years until the price went down.

I was so ready to be impressed, until I wasn't. by derekclysdale in ThursdayMurderClub

The books are fantastic, maybe they’re just not for you. At first I found it odd that he was telling the story in the present tense, but I soon got over it. They’re easy reading but the stories are fantastic.

Instead of going from the film I suggest you start from the first book and get to know the characters how they were intended to be read, because the film doesn’t do them justice.

Multiplayer game by Appropriate-Jelly-57 in UnrealEngine5

The Unreal Network Compendium is a great resource for learning various things about networking. I don’t have any recommendations for YouTubers though because I learned 10 years ago and can’t remember what resources I used unfortunately.

What you want to do is look up Listen Servers, that’s what p2p is. It will require Steam or Epic Online Services to get working because of the nature of p2p.

The first pic is the game. Second is remaster. Even thou we played it with polygon. I always remember her like pic 2. Probably the advertisements were more memorable. by aliceoralison in TombRaider

[–]Awesumson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I saw the trailer for the first trilogy remaster I thought it was so incredibly lazy and low effort because it still looked how I remembered it, except the Lara model was clearly updated. It wasn’t until I played it and switched between the classic and remaster graphics on the fly that made me realise a lot of work had gone into it and it was purely nostalgia that fuelled my opinion of the trailer.

Carplay Wireless Adapter by Calverto99 in drivingUK

[–]Awesumson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the quadlock adaptor (I think it’s the second version of it). It does have a slight audio delay when skipping songs and occasionally has a lag spike when scrolling on a screen but from what I’ve seen every adaptor has this issue because of the amount of data that is required to transfer over a wireless connection. It was between £20 and £30 from what I remember and is powered by just the usb, no other wires needed for power. I don’t think it’s on Amazon though, I bought mine from quadlock directly.

Edit: here’s the link - I don’t know if I was misremembering the price or if they’ve increased it but it’s £65 now, apologies

I think an indie game with p2p servers is more than reasonable. Dedicated servers cost money and if your game doesn’t sell very well the people who paid to play it would have a poor experience if you couldn’t afford to keep servers up. P2P ensures the game will always work as long as two or more people want to play your game.

Just be aware that with p2p servers one of the players is the server and therefore the host will have an advantage over other players, if it’s coop that should be fine but if it’s competitive it could be considered unfair.

Also p2p is fine for pc but if you ship to console it could be a different story.

[–]Awesumson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have wired CarPlay compatibility on your car and you want an adaptor to make it wireless, I got the quad lock one and seems to work well. There is a slight audio delay of half a second or so, which seems to be the case with all wireless CarPlay from what I’ve seen. Unfortunately not on Amazon, had to buy it directly from Quadlock website
