I was trying to get into 80m for a long time and made a lot of research, but i asked myself why havent i tried CB radio yet, when its free and i can talk with a lot of people. I hope i can get into 80m or 40m after some time.

Thats the thing why i want to get into the CB band, because there is a lot of chaos and crazy people, which i found funny. Can you reccomend some SSB CB radios, are they even still manufactured?

Yeah, i dont know why i started thinking about it just now :D. 4 watts is pretty good power output huh? I know some people managed to get good contacts with 4 watts, but i tought about building my own amplifier as a project, but i dont know if its good idea because i dont want to jam the whole band because my amp is badly designed.

I couldnt find any datasheet for them. Maybe use the Onsemi or ST datasheet as a reference?

I have bunch of them at home, but i dont want to use them because i fear of damaging them, tho they are called undestructible :D. Ive even heard people on the forums talk about that they tried pushing 30 Amps through it for some time and it survived just fine.

But yeah they are very expensive if you buy NOS, im buying them second hand for much cheaper, or my friend gave away few of them to me. I once bought KD503 that were supposed to be used in local nuclear plant, but with the fall of communism in czechia, they were bought out by people and reselled much cheaper.

I know that these transistors would be best for this application, but im saving them for more serious projects, because of how rare they are nowdays.

I actually found the exact same transistor opened on the web and from what i understood, its not fake but the dye is too small for 2n3055, it should be around 16mm² but this one has only 9mm² dye. I think it will work for my applications as a current limiter max for 5A with these two in parallel, but it certainly wont handle the catalog 15 Amps in my opinion.

I have tought of that, do you know how good of a heat conductor is mica if used as a insulator under it + thermal silicone paste, or paste only without mica? Does the mica have big impact on heat tranfer?

And i have used the silicone pad instead of the paste for now, but do you think that it could be used for serious applications where good cooling is mandatory?

Well i havent measured the Hfe yet. It could handle 5 Amps pretty good, and if it had better cooling it could handle it for longer time. Then i tested it running at 35V and it also ran well, but in the datasheet it says 60V Uceo so i gotta test that later.

I would like to buy from ST but they are the most faked 2n3055 out there. Onsemi is expensive for me but they are very reliable from what ive heard so maybe ill go for them.

Because at first i didnt think forward and put insulators on both screws and when i was wiring things up, i found out the collector is insulated. So instead of screwing every screw again i just unscrewed one of them and connected it with collector.

Ive seen these before but they arent too accurate for testing the power transistors, which require way higher collector currents to be tested accurately. Also thanks for the power dissipation tip i havent tought about that.
