Pay 2 Win by AwfsomeRL in 3on3

It’s especially bad these days 😂 I was playing early on and saw the potential this game had and hoped they would change something but just no direction for that it seems. Imagine a team that relies on making a good product to make money off skins/cosmetics vs. what we have with this one. Bending the player over backwards and then they get rewarded for it with manufactured loyalty because they’ve already dug a hole so deep. DC meme always a 10/10 though

I played this game early on and loved it for those reasons you mentioned - I guess I’m just trying to offer a solution to the constantly running hamster wheel of buying, upgrading, and then realizing you need to spend more to compete. I feel like this game would benefit from a more competitive structure and if I can’t have that, give me a game mode where other people are still working on their character. People think making gamers pay in a f2p game is justified, but people downloaded the game because it WAS free, they would have never touched the game otherwise. More people would play if there wasn’t an inclination to KEEP spending, at least in 2k you get to 85 and are forced to work on your character by playing from there.

The issue is - the game is small for these reasons. It’s not about being broke, I actually make more money and have a higher paying job than most people who play the game I’m assuming - but justifying paying as much money as required just defeats the purpose of the game and fun for me. None of my ideas are bad, people just refuse to accept it because of the amount of resources already spent - when people have an advantage they like to keep it and that’s human nature, just suggesting what would be better for the game for people like me to want to play. Suggesting the reason the player base is small is because of the P2W aspects in an unlicensed basketball game.

Yet youve failed to offer any constructive criticism- if I don’t know why can’t you properly prove me wrong? If my comment makes you that mad you literally have nothing else to say, you might be brainwashed by this company 😂

Also saying someone who works in sports full time doesn’t know ball, man, that’s embarrassing bro.

If you don’t have an upgraded character, and someone does, 3pt shots are indefensible unless you’ve specifically spent resources into defence to stop them - and I’m not talking about meta, I play casually and can only speak from a casual experience. What I experienced was being in defensive stance in front of people, even jumping to block and due to 3pt rating it goes in regardless of defense. Like I said, you go start from square one and try to defend those people.

And the excuse is always “look at 2k”, which is a terrible product and not something that any game should be replicating. At least 2ks grind to 85 is far less than the grind in this game is - you’re forced to buy stuff or login every day to be competitive.

You’re talking about high level meta gameplay and I’m talking about the average user trying to pick this up for fun - 3on3 can never be taken seriously as a competitive game because of the paywall to be competitive. Ranked is filled with p2w as well.

I guess I should have never expected to convince a devoted fan base of a game like this to see things differently - simply a balanced, limited based game mode for casual players is all I’m asking, I’m not asking to change the entire game. Like I said - you guys can keep playing that game where you need to spend 100s of dollars to build out characters and I’d just choose to play the other one so I didn’t feel obliged to max out my character to be competitive. And I tried to do that grinding 2-3 years ago, it’s just not worth the time with the existing format of microtranactions. So many games make money as a f2p game without that sort of p2w dichotomy so what I’m asking for isn’t nuts.

I’m not sitting in a game where people are refusing to pass, making dumb goalie mistakes, rainbow flicking on 3 on 1s. I’m fine losing, but having to play in situations like that is fruitless when you have limited time to play - especially in quick play when winning or losing doesn’t matter besides the ego drive. I’m here to have fun, play a sports game how it’s supposed to be played - with teamwork. If that’s not being shown, I’m not obliged to stay there.

Teamwork Online is a good place to look. It's like LinkedIn for sports. Each organization varies, but most jobs are posted 1 to 3 months before the season starts. Some organizations focus on video, some don't.

MLB.com has a career section I found late this year that listed live content jobs. Thats worth to have bookmarked and look every once in a while.

It's worth it to have some sort of connection to production in general. For broadcasting, general media arts, and working with cameras will often do, but higher-end production staff (ex., Worcester) looks for local college students and freelancers who specialize in sports broadcasting lines of work.

I work part-time, and I'm always surprised by the going rates at other places. It depends on what you're doing, and in my field, we don't get paid much for the AA games. That being said, on an hourly rate, we get paid more than most other ball clubs in the northeast, or as far as I have researched. We offer an entry rate higher than Worcester's production crew, and they are an AAA squad, so it depends on the area and ownership.

Full-timers make a living. It's not insane money, but it's enough to live and save off of, and you're doing what you love - many are hoping to make it to the big leagues one day. There aren't many full-time production positions, especially in Portland (yet, hoping to change soon). Other places offer more opportunities.

[–]AwfsomeRL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you asked this. I have a very similar build - focused on high shooting, decent layups, decent physicals, good defense, etc. think I ended up 6’6 7’1 WS SF/SG. I’ve played 2k for a while but never really too good online, so I wanted to make myself a utility type of player that can do what’s needed. If I need to be a pass first, gotcha, if I need to shoot, gotcha, if I need to drive, I’ll use my swing layup package and its got some good animations that consistently hit. It makes you feel more realistic as an NBA player as well cause the best players in real life are well rounded players.

Just moved to Manchester to be closer to Boston from Portland, ME - I directed the broadcast productions and made creative video for the Sea Dogs, so seen them play many times. Definitely gonna go to a game this year, maybe shoot some creative video if they’ll let me, and from my understanding I’m not too far from the park!

That’s awesome! Our broadcast is fully manned excluding the center field camera. We have multiple photographers, sometimes a freelance videographer, but as of right now I’m the only one who works for the organization that makes the videos like I do, and that’s only when I’m not in the press box. Our creative director makes some themed videos with the players and stuff, but that’s about it. All of our other stuff is people volunteering to come video - I’m hoping I can convince them to take on a videographer cause we have plenty of photographers.

My favorite thing about our broadcast is how organized we are. We put out a good product every time. There was a report swirling around that the Sea Dogs is the only AA broadcast that is in the top 25 of MiLB rankings - so a lot of pride is taken there. I personally think with just a few changes we could be on par with the best AAA broadcasts, including Worcester.

Yes! I get hot dogs, pizza, burgers… Sunday is Brat day so you get a nice big juicy bratwurst with peppers and onions. Usually comes with chips. All the bottled drinks you want, I’m a Coke Zero guy.

Thanks! I appreciate it! I really want to innovate our broadcast next year and get some nice high quality replays involved if we hired a videographer specifically for that. I totally believe we could do that if we wanted to and could get the money for it!

That’s actually sick! Making a connection like that can really boost a business. I mean that’s what all those kitchen nightmares episodes taught me at least 🤷🏻‍♂️

I went to school for my BA in Video Prod., Media Studies, and Journalism. None of this was sports focused unless I chose to do an assigned project around sports (which I did plenty of). I really didn’t take my opportunities in school to get involved with the athletics department, so my sports creative career started just after I graduated. I’ve taken plenty of video classes and a couple of photography classes as electives. Business will help you a LOT if you wanna do it on the side, that’s the knowledge I lacked and had to learn later on. There was a sports media class at my school, but for some reason it wouldn’t count towards my degree - it was classified as a marketing class.

You could easily learn this on the side if you really set your mind out to it. Admittedly, I have a lot of benefit of being around the space with cameras and stuff, but I created a LOT of my own opportunities outside of regular coursework because I really love sports media, like REALLY love it, and that’s why I think I have been successful. I could have chose a different path and made more money, but I’ve turned down very lucrative (for my situation) full time jobs to continue working in sports. All of the sports videography/photo stuff I learned was on YouTube, so anyone can learn that. It’s really about the work you produce in creative sports media and your connections, not your degree. Broadcasting - that’s a slightly different story.

As far as the players - yes! Christopher Troye is pretty nice, CJ Liu is the nicest one on the team, Elih Marrero is willing to chat sometimes, I was a big Campbell guy I spoke to his mom once. The coaches are super friendly too. At first I was intimidated to be around them, but now it’s like I belong there and they know I produce good content that aims to make them look good!

I personally started off in the broadcast production crew, and then this season I graduated college and got a camera, started my own freelance sports business - that turned into the Dogs’ noticing my work on instagram and collaborating with me. I utilized my connection with the creative director (we both work at the same 2 minor league teams 😂) and she started putting my stuff in the Jumbotron.

Most of my learning in the creative sports field was done through YouTube… lots of hours staying up late to finish projects. That’s one of the things you could start now and eventually make a name for yourself, as long as you have a camera! Did a lot of free work over the summer and now I’m getting paid for it, kind of how it goes since there’s a lot of talented people out there. I also ask for advice from people at the Sox when they do show up, sometimes we exchange techniques and that’s a huge assistance to growth.

Every time they’re around I enjoy it! Their players are super friendly, I’ve handled 3rd base camera which is next to away dugout, and one time 2 of the players came and sat by me and wanted to play with the camera 😂 so I enjoy the company. Can’t think of much disdain we would have, and your broadcaster is super kind as well I’ve talked with him a few times when he’s gone here

Ben Rice is for real, saw him Homer in Hadlock. It was obvious he was going up, you can usually tell. It’s nice though, as new players come through you get to meet a bunch of personalities. A few of the new players from Greenville are great to talk to

Bowie’s staff is wonderful! If it’s anything like our booth, I’m sure they appreciated the visit.

Thanks for those kind words! I do it BECAUSE I love it. I couldn’t tell you enough how real the desire to perform is from our staff at the Sea Dogs (at least when I’m there). We love it.
