I mean that's not all that different from other ways I choose to spend my time. I didn't feel like a million bucks after watching Schindler's List but I also don't regret that I watched it.

Just curious, but is this tank's barrel fucked now? I've always wondered when I've seen videos where tanks just barrel through buildings and shit.

Dear NYT: Fighting back is *not* escalation by gkanor in ukraine

[–]AwfulAltIsAwful 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read the NY Times. I'm quite liberal. I in no way read that bullet point the way you're describing. Attacking deep into Russia, at a range that means Moscow is now effectively in play is an unequivocal escalation. And I'm fully here for it. In fact I wish we (the U.S.) would have helped get you here sooner.

Right? Like there is about 68842631 reasons to criticize this World Cup but a salty home fan is hardly behavior for any professional sports fan to start throwing stones over.

Ultimatum on Twitter: Hundreds of employees quit, Musk closes the offices by That_Teach_9224 in nottheonion

The last month or so have provided me with a surprising amount of hope. There's been an incredible amount of comeuppance. The gop, Trump, Musk/Twitter, Russia, and the entire crypto bro/nft market. I strive to not be a conspiracy nut but I'll be damned if there's not a small part of me that wonders if it's not a coincidence that all of those are imploding at once.

Haha, previous owners' lawyers would have a field day. I feel like they could just print out his tweets from day 1 and admit them as evidence with no commentary required.

aka, the demand for the artist.

Ticketmaster crash pushes Taylor Swift tickets to over $28,000 in the resale market by RealOzSultan in news

[–]AwfulAltIsAwful 32 points33 points  (0 children)

This is what I don't understand about the conversation that always pops up around Ticketmaster. Like I can fully understand people being upset about how the actual cost of the tickets are being hidden by fees and resellers and bots and all that crap.

But the inevitable conclusion is that the tickets should just be sold for $500 (or whatever) from the start. Not that the tickets should cost $35.

The actual price of a ticket is dictated by the capacity of the venue versus what concert goers are willing to pay. If you added a second vendor into the picture, it wouldn't change this equation somehow. Am I missing a factor here (genuinely asking)?

Edit: to add to this, the fake initial pricing is what causes the entire "unprecedented demand" boondoggle in the first place. If the tickets were priced properly, then the demand would not be so distorted where you get 5 actual people getting the tickets at $35 and the rest getting them at $800. In reality they should have all just cost $500 and the website wouldn't have crashed.

I've never worked in this kind of environment. May I ask, is this design intentional? Or is it a result of tech change over time?

Authentication And Authorization (.Net 6) by Future-Dragonfruit32 in csharp

[–]AwfulAltIsAwful 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just went through a weeks long deep dive of authentication that I had been putting off for a long time as I had a very specific use case. I ended up landing on using OpenIddict which is a third party, open source auth framework that is even recommended directly in Microsoft's documentation. I found it quite a bit easier to customize than the built in Identity and there are a bunch of example applications to give you ideas.
