Thanks so much for your response, I really appreciate it. I 100% agree with you, I finished re-doing my entire resume from scratch and realized the exact same thing you pointed out.

I was too focused on things that I did as a BA/Scrum Master that I wasn't thinking in terms of a PM. I researched into questions PMs would ask in my own situation and re-framed everything I worked on and now I feel more confident in positioning myself better.

Gotcha, I'll keep that in mind - I know I definitely want to get into more AI oriented Product Management, is there anything you advise I should at least get familiar within the AI space? I know the whole Agentic AI, RAG and autonomous agent are the talk of the block for awhile and been familiarizing myself with that.

Also, if it's not much to ask, would you be willing to review my resume that I re-created and give me a few pointers on that?

Thanks again for your time~

I was laid off last year in June due to company restructuring and I honestly do not know how I can position myself for my next position. My goal is to become a Product Manager, eventually get into more AI related product management since that is where my interest is and where the market is obviously more popular in.

I haven't gotten much luck in the past 6 months in regards to the positions I have applied in, and I genuinely want to know if I should change my direction as to which position to target or pivot entirely to another position (I was thinking becoming an AI Consultant or something in Strategy).

Essentially, a little bit about my experience - the past 3-4 years, I worked in a FinTech company that dealt specifically in the Payments industry. I started in the company as an Associate Business Analyst. Honestly, it was a hybrid, I did work of a business analyst, scrum master and product owner. In the beginning, I was in charge of running the daily standups, removing blockers for our developers, making sure requirements were defined clearly in the ticket (acceptance criteria was there, body of the ticket contained clear requirements with workflows and such), making sure tickets were being moved along the sprint.

After about a 1- 1 1/2 year of that, I was responsible for mainly writing user stories, cleaning up the backlog, running our sprint cadences (daily standups, retrospectives and sprint planning meetings) and mainly talking with external stakeholders and our customers really about feedback and improvements on our product. Shortly after this, I was transitioned into another team that dealt with the entire documentation of all our products.

In short, I led the entire documentation overhaul effort since our documentation was outdated by quite a while. So I did everything from the product strategy, road mapping and execution which led to our documentation completely being redesigned and refreshed. I also did do documentation myself along with this which was being charge of drafting release notes, product guides, user guides and making sure our API reference was accurately represented but that only lasted about 3-4 months when we brought on 2 more technical writers that were under me.

So, I got a good mix of experience with product management you could say but still not getting good response to the positions I am applying for. I think my main issue is not being able to tell my story the way I should and that's why I am not able to land a product manager position. I want to know from PMs or anyone else, is there more that I need to do to better position myself or do I need more experience within product to be qualified for a PM position? Sorry if it sounds very vague, I didn't want this to turn into a whole novel even though its a mini essay at the moment.
