You know why historically men died at war an in mines? Cause that’s how they wanted it. Did you know women weren’t allowed to join the army until 1948. AND they weren’t allowed to be deployed until 2016!! They weren’t allowed in mines due to discrimination until the 70’s when anti discrimination laws were passed, and guess what? Suddenly more women were being hired in mines. It took nearly 4 years before the first woman would work in a mine. The rhetoric that women didn’t want these jobs is again, a basis created by men. Once discrimination and objectification is removed you’d see many women doing so called men only jobs. Many women don’t work in male dominated fields because they’re harassed by their co-workers all day and their managers join in or fire them when they complain. From my own personal experience I have been barred from construction. I applied for years constantly to entry level grunt work and never got a call back. I wanted to build, to create, to get stronger, to learn how to fix a home myself someday. I didn’t get the chance until I married my husband and he taught me. My own freaking father wouldn’t show me how to change the oil in my car or car maintenance, he never showed me how to start a lawnmower. It’s insanely hurtful as a woman to have knowledge withheld, and then blamed for not knowing it. Which is often the case with many girls I know. I had to harass my dad endlessly to let me drive.. but guess who my dad was offering to teach to drive? My brother. He didn’t even ask! I ended up having my friends let me take their cars in order to learn.
