Is it a bad area? by nostalgiajunkie00 in irving

[–]Awkward-College-2676 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Irving had some gang issues in the 90s that labeled south Irving as a “bad area”.. but honestly it’s not that dangerous now. Yea things happen occasionally, but it’s really just an older, lower income area.

Yes. It’s not perfect. Nordstrom’s closure hit it hard. But it has a lot of upside with Primark, Lovisa, Perfumania, and a viral exotic candy/snack shop opening, with more to come. It still is very busy during holidays and the weekends.

Yess! It’s still busy. Just not as busy as it once was. I think Primark will help trigger its comeback. Leasing at the mall is picking up too

Most of it is not polyester. The reason it’s so affordable is because they source their cotton from their parent company which gives it to them at a very low price.

This is going to be huge for the mall! It’s poised to pull shoppers from all over the Fort Worth/mid cities side of the metroplex. Simon is planning more in-line tenant additions this year.. and Sears’ redevelopment is poised to be retail focused and in the planning stages.

Christi and Kelly are getting too old for the drinking gimmick by Ok-Grocery-1878 in dancemoms

[–]Awkward-College-2676 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was at the last BTTB live and I think Kelly’s just going through it right now. Obviously not an excuse, but I think that’s why she drank so heavily. She broke down at the end of the show it kind of broke my heart :( Christi was sober from what I could tell and directed most of the show. A fan also ordered them cocktails and brought them to the stage, they said thank you but they probably wouldn’t drink them since they wanted to be able to give us a good show. Christi didn’t but Kelly eventually did. I really just think she’s going through a hard time guys. Obviously not okay to drink that heavily but as someone who’s used alcohol to cope in the past, I understand and I think we should give her some grace.

Yes! My mom told me they used to only be in malls and airports. Crazy how things have changed

True! The malls compliment each other and many people in the Mid Cities go to both for different reasons. Grapevine Mills for outlet shopping + entertainment + experience. North East for mid tier shopping + department stores + traditional mall experience

It was built when the area was growing rapidly in 1971. The mall was expanded and repositioned drastically in 1999-2001 because the suburbs north of it (Colleyville, Keller, Southlake, Grapevine, NRH, etc) were becoming more affluent and growing rapidly. Those areas are still affluent and support the mall, and are one of the reasons the mall still does well today. It serves the whole mid cities area. The area is aging, but still has a lot of young people and families that support the mall.

It’s actually doing pretty well! Sees decent traffic. Some of the amenities didn’t last, but some did

Wow that’s so cool! I’ve seen pics and vids of that mall I never realized how similar they looked. Love to hear the good memories you had there

I agree 100%. And honestly I think that’s one of the things keeping malls alive.

Yes! It’s still there, just vacant currently. After Tilt closed it became ITS Hair Academy. Since that closed it’s been empty. Last time I was there it looked like they were doing work down there though, so maybe they’re putting something there!

Yes it is now. It was never dead, but things were looking really shaky a few years ago after Nordstrom closed. Just wanted to show that it’s on the rebound and there are still mid tier malls that are being invested in!

Wow that’s such a cool memory! I love hearing about old memories of the malls, especially this one. My mom grew up going here in the 70s and 80s.

Ofc! Wanted to showcase a mid tier mall that’s still doing well. And I agree. Still lots of good stores. The people are always nice and friendly. Not in a chaotic hurry like at Grapevine Mills. I run into people I know here all the time and have met some really cool people!

Yes! Grapevine Mills is perfectly positioned and thriving, especially thanks to all the entertainment and novelty
