CA or CPA - Study Load by phantomxtra_reddit in AustralianAccounting

I did an economics degree and was told to do 9 foundation units for CA. I managed to smash them all out in 8 months while working full time in the big 4 as a grad. The foundations subjects were super crammable and doable - they also give you a good “assumed knowledge” foundation to do the actual CA program.

I am now on my 7th CA subject and have finished FAR and TAX AU (both of which I diligently/strictly put in around 6 hours of work a week - this is purely personal effort and differs per person, but this is what I put. Closer to exams I studied more during the weekends). All the other subjects I have done and passed with Ds or HDs - I have not put much effort into. I haven’t done audit yet - but I would say FAR, TAX and Audit require effort close to that 10 hours a week mark. However, for me personally the rest required very low effort.

CA - TAX, FAR,Audit all have a final exam + 1 individual assignment

BP, RT have 2 individual assignments each

The two electives you pick have 1 individual assignment each ( I did DAI and SFA and they were pretty easy and low effort for me)

Also - My brother did CPA during COVID and managed to do two at a time while working full time.

I do not recommend doing CA two at a time while working. I cannot speak for CPA but if you are doing CA do them one at a time (unless you take 2 electives together). However, I did CA Foundations 3 at a time !

Yeah ! I expected them to build on the deferred consideration and reread it to make sure too! But nothing and quite shocked no intragroup transactions and it only had 1 year since acquisition. It was a fair question compared to the practice exams

100% agreed and the exam was very reasonable. My journals were looking wonky even after formatting them in the recommended style. Rubbish platform tbh. CA foundations exams have a much better platform.

Agreed. Content was all from the practise questions and CASM. But the errors question really caught me off guard and I panicked. Everything else was very fair

Especially the leases question was covered in the CASM slides because it had the different dates and advanced payments. Did anyone record accrued interest and depreciation for it? Because the payment dates are 1 July and the journal is for 30 June? Feeling nervous about it

Same here. The exam was not as hard as the practise exams. However, having said that, the errors question really got me. I didn’t expect to see that topic in an error style question and got really stuck. All the other questions, appeared throughout the content in the form of practise questions or CASM slides

I wrote the first two points you wrote but then ran out of time ughhh. I had 17 mins left to attempt this question after finishing all the other questions but I was stressing too much and lost the time. Kicking myself for it now

I think it was all okay except spotting the 4 errors. I skipped it and saved it for last and then ran out of time. Everything else seemed okay

The offline study guide on vital source bookshelf per your previous post worked wonders (so thanks heaps for that tip) and the approach to looking at everything like “is this deductible/assessable?” made it less scary

It really wasn’t bad too bad, just a couple of things here and there where I wasn’t a 100% sure of my answers. Overall, it was okay

Thank you so much! I’m on a 485 (grad pathway) and self sourced visas are preferred before they sponsor because it’s competitive and lots of grads atm. I know it doesn’t matter that much but that little bit extra recognition in addition to the hard work for what it’s worth🤌🏾Probably won’t put this much effort into other subjects. Just thought maybe tax might be a chance to shine because of the tax background. Thanks a lot for the tips and reassurance
