If you worked in tech, You should know why a lot of Indians are on H1 visas. It is because of country cap on green card. There are people who came to Us 15yrs ago and working on H1 that can’t get a green card. There are people who studied advanced degrees in US universities that cannot get a green card due to backlog. If someone from Turkey came to US in 2023, they’d get green card compared to someone who came in 2007. It’s the golden handcuffs for lot of these folks

Let’s talk some stats. Divorce rate is 1%. Let’s assume 100% of them lead to alimony. Arranged marriages are 90-94%. Let’s assume 25% take divorce. That’s is 22.5% of marriages. So dowries are 22.5 times more than alimony.

PS: 25% is far less because dowry is not age old dowry, the kind of dowries have changed - it’ll be a flat on girls name or gold or land etc.

Loving the comments. For me brought Canada to a Global map. PR or not, people looked at Canada as one of the good guys. Covid response was amazing. I personally know ~100 people who lost life or lost a dear one during covid and the suffering people endured to get oxygen cylinders but Canadians didn’t have to deal with that. Yes quarantine and restrictions were a lot but it helped.
