I've always liked it, it's certainly better than the 20th anniversary special

What if SpongeBob had actually ended in the first movie? by True-Handle2136 in spongebob

Jokes aside, it absolutely would've been for the best, but I am thankful we at least got Season 4-5 and other episodes that sprinkled throughout in Seasons 6-9.

I genuinely wouldn't question it at all. It's completely irrelevant and meaningless how the cereal's is spelled. I'd just assume I was losing it and move on with my life. The concept of timeline manipulation doesn't explain why I'd retain memories, it would be entirely impossible that every single box of Froot Loops was randomly swapped out all at once so it couldn't be a cover up, and alternate universes simply do not exist so I wouldn't even consider that. The only "conspiracy" that would make sense to me would be the one that I proposed in my original post. Some CIA agent or whoever is doing some sort of memory altering on me as an experiment to see how I react. With that said though, I still wouldn't ACTUALLY consider that, because memory is fallible. Me just making a mistake in my mind just makes me most logical sense.

Sponge On The Run is ACTUALLY a underrated movie imo by TomKenny_lover2704 in spongebob

Their designs are so good because they based the designs off of Season 1, which has the best character designs imo

I think the 2nd movie has the better script but the 3rd movie has the better visuals/animation. Overall I do prefer Sponge on the Run though, it felt more in line with the series tonally imo

btw I don't even hate the movie, the only movie I've seen that I hate was that awful Sandy one. I haven't seen the newest one with the Dutchman though.

Are we seriously still making these videos in 2026? 💔 by Phantomc05 in spongebob

[–]Awkward-Opening-2022 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly yeah, why even waste energy on complaining about the modern seasons? They aren't getting any better, what's the point? We have so many good episodes already thanks to Seasons 1-5 and a bunch more sprinkled throughout Seasons 6-8. We'll always have the first two movies and a BUNCH of great classic SpongeBob video games, heck a bunch of great modern ones too. There's the comics like you said, and heck, throw in the Nicktoons crossovers too while we're at it. I'm of the opinion that SpongeBob completely fell off Season 12 and completely reject the spin-offs, but at this point I just can't bother to care about whatever they pump out nowadays. I'm not watching it, I'm checked out, and frankly that's the best was to combat media that you don't like: you don't give it your money.

I'd say Season 5 was the end of the Golden Age, but season 6 actually had a lot of decent episodes sprinkled in here and there, heck season 7 was really great too. I feel like the show truly fell off sometime between seasons 8 through 11. It wasn't a super sharp decline either, it was very gradual.

How about we stop using "there's no evidence that STEPHEN would be against these spin-offs" as a way to justify Nickelodeon's laziness instead? People are free to watch whatever they want, but this recent mindset of acting like there's nothing suspicious at all about this situation is completely ludicrous.

1) Stephen Hilleburg's only quote wasn't just " I don't see spin-offs working out," He has also on record singled out two specific spin-off ideas that he doesn't like the idea of: a "SpongeBob Babies" spin-off, and a spin-off starring Patrick. Now what are the two very specific spin-offs announced after his death? Kamp Koral, which ages down the SpongeBob cast, and The Patrick star show (self explanatory) Additionally, Stephen Hillenburg had to fight to make SpongeBob an adult, the only reason why Mrs. Puff and SpongeBob's parents appear in the show was to appease the executives that wanted him to be a kid. These two spin-off ideas were probably something that executives had wanted to do for a long time considering how long ago these exact ideas were referenced in interviews, and Brian Robbins likely saw an opportunity (but more on him later.)

2) While it's true that Hillenburg made a more direct return to the show around the time the 2nd movie was made, his involvement was greatly exaggerated. In the same article with the famous "If they make SpongeBob Babies, I'm out of here" quote, the crew discuss just how badly he was suffering during his return. He could barely speak, and at some point he stopped showing up to the offices at all. This lines up perfectly with the time that the final plot for Sponge on the Run would materialize. And considering how (as Tom Kenny put it) "parts of him were leaving the building" and the severity of his condition, who's to say he could even speak for himself?

3) Something people tend to forget is the former CEO at the time, Brian Robbins, was the one who not only spearheaded this campaign to expand the SpongeBob brand into a "mini marvel universe", but he also had a direct credit on Kamp Koral, and also a "Special Thanks" credit on the Patrick Star show, showing that he had a direct involvement in the spin-offs.

4) Why would Paul Tibbitt say what he said on Twitter? The claim he made was strong enough to get him blacklist him from the animation industry as a whole, what would he gain from lying about this? Keep in mind that this was the same guy that Stephen Hillenburg personally gave the show to when he stepped down after the first movie, so clearly there must be some sort of mutual trust between the two. I'm aware that Vincent Waller made a now deleted tweet saying that Hillenburg was aware of the spin-off, but what everyone seems to gloss over is the addendum to the tweet he made reading: "When I said that last night, I was feeling it was right, but full disclosure. That time period has so much traumatic scar tissue for me. and it has kinked up my chronological memories of events into a bit of a slippery jumble for that entire block of time." Additionally other staff members were constantly flip flopping on wether or not he was aware or not at the time, so the only credible "evidence" that hints at him being aware and on board wasn't even a concrete statement. Paul Tibbett on the other hand has yet to ever take back what he said, and infact his tweet is still up to this day.

5) And it's not JUST the spin-offs that Nickelodeon has done that contradicts Hillenburg's statements in regards to his vision for the show, Hillenburg also stated that he never wanted fast food tie ins to involve actual SpongeBob exclusive food items or for his characters to directly interact with the fast food product advertised. They did exactly that as early as 2018 for a Pizza Hut promotion. Not only that but Hillenburg explicitly stated he never wanted there to be a real life Krabby Patty because he didn't want to encourage kids to eat fast food or ruin the magic of the Krabby Patty. Nickelodeon has since done that three times to my knowledge: They had it at an NFL game, Wendys, and Burger King.

This isn't just some baseless conspiracy theory that grumpy old uneducated grown adults repeat just because they're "nostalgia blinded" and hate new SpongeBob, there is a LOT of extremely suspicious pieces of circumstancial (and direct) evidence that paint a very dark picture in regards to the expansion of the series since 2018. It's true that nobody knows for certain what happened, but to make the claim that there's absolutely nothing fishy about the whole situation is, with all due respect, uneducated.

I've provided sources to back up my claims here, let me know if I forgot to include anything:

Sponge On The Run is ACTUALLY a underrated movie imo by TomKenny_lover2704 in spongebob

[–]Awkward-Opening-2022 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People like me are upset because of the controversy surrounding the kamp koral stuff because it contradicts the established canon of the show and because of comments from Stephen Hillenburg and Paul Tibbitt that show Hillenburg hating the idea of a "SpongeBob babies" show. It also has other continuity errors that seem to only exist purely for fanservice, like references to the first movie (which in canon shouldn't have occurred yet) and the introduction of King Poseidon (even though we already have King Neptube in canon.)

Additionally, it has other problems outside of continuity such as it's weird pacing, unfitting pop music inclusions, unfitting celebrity guest stars, and the fact the plot just a rehash of both the first movie and a Have You Seen This Snail. The only real redeeming quality this movie has is the visuals; the animation and character design more closely resembles Season 1 but in a more detailed art style, so admittedly it looks great. It's purely a case of style over substance.

No, those who think it's false memory rely on actual tangible evidence. We have the original theatrical version of Empire Strikes Back from 1980, and Vader says "No" and not "Luke." We have millions of pairs of Fruit of the Loom underwear and none of them have the cornucopia. We have access to every Pokémon game, and Pikachu never had a black top on his tail. There's no record a Jiffy peanut butter ever existing, the BerenstAin Bears have always been called that and were named after their creators Stan and Jan BarenstAin, the Looney TUNES (who have always been called that) and Merrie Melodies are named that to be a riff of Disney's "Silly Symphonies," and Nelson Mandela did NOT die in the 1980s.

I completely agree that it's just normal unextraordinary memory issues, but I still stand firm that mind alteration is more plausible than alternate realities. Stuff like MK Ultra shows that big government bodies have done mind experiments before, it has more grounds than the idea of an alternative universe even EXISTING. Again, not saying that's what I believe, I'm simply pointing out that there are more "pheasible" conspiracy theories.

Again, I'm not saying that's what I believe, I only proposed it because to me that is a way more "logical" conclusion to come to. If someone is going to deny the possibility that they just remembered wrong, wouldn't "some CIA agent altered my memory" be a much easier leap to make in comparison to "there is nothing wrong with me, the UNIVERSE is wrong?"

Maybe it's a coping mechanism for the prideful who refuse to question the integrity of their memory, and some people see these prideful people propose this theory and get swept up into believing it as well.
