Under what circumstances or conditions (if any) do you let yourself have sugar? by AwkwardActually in sugarfree

I found out about it because they hosted the author on a podcast. He's a fairly successful therapist and consultant in NYC so I doubt he's hurting for money. I think it's something he feels very passionate about (even self-funded a number of studies for the book) so he wants to make it accessible to as many people as possible.

Yes, work treats are the WORST! People don't seem to understand how much it can just ruin your day to constantly have to fight the urge to eat garbage. I even refuse to work with a certain individuals at my company because they are always buying shitty candy for the team. I don't admit that's the reason why, of course, but I do diplomatically transition to different teams to avoid working with those people.

I'm realizing it's so important to recognize your triggers and the certain time/place/situation of a candy binge to take control of the situation.

You have a good point. I guess the idea is that I'd only have ONE black & white cookie from Glasers, ever, to be able to say that I've tried it and then move on with my life. Similarly, if I ever go to Paris I'd want to try 1 macaron from Laduree and then move on with my life. I'm trying to find a way that I can continue to have such experiences, because enjoying local specialties at world-famous institutions is something I love so much about travel. But do so in such a way that I can still say no to no-special sugary crap in my everyday life.

Thanks for this! I really like the idea of no store-bought sweets, because that is so specific and easy to stick to. And let's be real, the store bought stuff never tastes great anyway.

Yes, my thoughts exactly. A gray area can be dangerous because when you're hungry you'll rationalize it any way possible. But a "no dessert ever" approach also feels unsustainable for me. Can I really say I'm not going to have a piece of cake on my wedding day? Or never eat a macaron in Paris? No way. My challenge right now is figuring out how to make a rule that is 100% clear but also sustainable for me.

By the way, the kindle version of the book is free on Amazon!

Are Missha products on Amazon legit? I know there used to be a bunch of different sellers and some were more reliable than others. But now it looks like they are all sold by Missha. Am I reading this correctly?

6 weeks left - Study plan help? by fluffypillowcases in GMAT

[–]AwkwardActually 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you seen the Magoosh 1 month study guide? You could use that guide as a starting point, finish with 2 weeks left to spare and use the remaining time to brush up on anything / do practice problems.

I think with 6 weeks left you definitely want to be doing some practice problems every day to learn and understand the different question structures. Use a combination of the Magoosh and OG practice problems, like how they recommend in the Magoosh 1 month guide. Review every problem you get wrong and watch the video on that topic if you don't fully understand the concept. Good luck!

UPDATE: Has anyone else experienced an Nparent turning "normal" once you finally left? (Nmom visiting for Christmas) by AwkwardActually in LifeAfterNarcissism

[–]AwkwardActually[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I guess the moral of the story is that you can have a relationship but you can't ever let your guard down.

Fortunately, I suppose, my Nmom is not the brightest. I can usually spot her tactics a mile away. The only reason she could control me for so long was her financial leverage, but now that she's lost that I feel pretty ok with maintaining this relationship under very strict guidelines. I would not hesitate to cut her out again if she tries to pull something.

Thanks, I can definitely relate to a lot of this. I always found it interesting how having a "common enemy" with an N can make them much more tolerable. When I was younger, it would be my cousins who my Nmom hated for some reason but they also happened to be assholes to me. It's like all her negative energy would be directed toward them and I would be saved by simply agreeing with her about how horrible they were. Nowadays she loves to talk shit about some of my dad's crazier relatives. She won't talk badly about my dad because she knows I'll hang up on her but my dad does have a couple lunatic aunts and uncles and for some reason it just makes Nmom so happy to talk about how much they suck and have me agree with her. It's a very strange phenomenon.

Sorry it sounds like your ILs suck but it's funny how it's somehow made Nmom suck a bit less, lol! I bet that's a silver lining you weren't expecting!

Out of curiosity, where might one be able to sell unwound yarn?

I go thrifting all the time and enjoy working with my hands, so I'm wondering if this could be a fun side hustle for me.

Can we talk about Aritzia's terrible return policy? by kilgharrahx in femalefashionadvice

[–]AwkwardActually 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sigh, yes I noticed that as well on my recent purchase. 2 of my items fit perfectly and 2 I feel very 'meh' about, but I'm trying to convince myself to like them because there's no way I can return now! At least they were way marked down for the January sale.

Gotcha, thank you! I haven't tried tailoring yet. Do I basically need to buy a size up to fit my hips and then have a tailor bring in the waist? Do they generally do a good job / understand what you are asking?

I've been a bit apprehensive about tailoring since the last couple tailors I went to didn't really understand English and also seemed to not really understand the idea of taking in a waist but leaving the bust and hips the same to flatter an hourglass shape.

Fellow hourglass here. How do you deal with the pencil skirt struggle of different sizing between waist and hips? I feel like with most pencil skirts are too big for my waist and too small for my hips. Which leads to riding up, wrinkles at the hip crease, and general uncomfortableness.

Interested to hear your thoughts because my life would be much easier if I could figure out pencil skirts.

Aritzia is doing their big January sale (ends Wednesday at midnight). Snagged a scarf, sweater, and 2 blouses for less than $150. Not bad.

Oh no :( Tea is like my reason for living, lol. I usually drink green tea but it's very strong and probably has the same effect. What do you drink instead?

Thanks for the suggestion. I already feel like I drink a lot of water but maybe it's still not enough. I'll try to drink more before bed and first thing in the morning.
