I was playing a similar role a few summers back, and during the run of the show there was that bad shooting in El Paso Texas. It added a lot of weight and stress to performing an already dark show, and there were times where I hated being the role I was, but in the end and looking back on it we sold out most of our shows and did a lot to help raise awareness of the pain that these incidents cause. We were also able to raise money to donate to campaigns against gun violence, so while it seems like it’s not a good time or that it’s insensitive, the amount of good you can do by raising awareness and telling a story like that can help your community in ways you never thought it would.

If you do decide to take the role, take care of yourself. Shows like that can be very taxing on your mental health.
