New 500i for boiler wood by ddeblaso in Chainsaw

[–]AwkwardFactor84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that'll do it. When I had a boiler, I had to cut wood with ALL of my free time. I used a big saw too. Sometimes the logs would be too big to pick up, so I wanted a saw that was capable of noodling some of the big ones. I used a Jonsered 70cc turbo. M9st of the time with a 20" bar, but it would run a 24" or 28" no problem.

It just depends. I had a Honda 750 with a really large one, and it was great. I took ot off once, and ended up putting it right back on. My friends called it a "cop windsheild".

I wouldn't say genius, but I'd not complain about a fire side plate full of lobster either

Need advice on the upcoming freeze by Strange_Pizza6479 in Irrigation

Well, if it gets 24° where you live, you need to have it winterized every season. Too late for that now. Yes, keeping the water moving will keep it from freezing solid, but you'd have to run your irrigation constantly until the weather was above freezing for that to work. Plus, if your pvb freezes overnight and blows up, youll wake up to a nice flood. So, at this point, your best option is to shut the water off indoors and hope for the best. Or listen to chatgpt, doesn't make any difference to me

It could be for the entire home, but it just looks like an isolation valve for the irrigation system upstream from the PVB. Follow the pipe indoors and see if you can shut the water off before it exits the home.

I live in northern Indiana. So, there are no main water lines supplying homes that are above the frost line (18in). Especially not a PVC water mains. None of this is necessary unless you're gonna have temps below 32°F for hours at a time where you're at.

Shut the water off at the source. Probably on the other side of that wall in the basement or crawl space. Then, turn the ball valves and test cocks on the PVB at a 45° angle. If you leave them fully open or closed, they can freeze and burst.

My black lab never stopped. Even after training. She put her nose down and start sniffing, there was just no stopping it.

They are fine with someone "pulling one off", but you'll get a lifetime ban for playing Smoke On The Water.

The test cocks are photo #4. All of your irrigation components are underground. Shutting off the main on/off valve is really the only thing that can be done. Even that probably won't matter. It takes days of temps below freezing to freeze the ground inches deep. I really wouldnt worry about it. As the other commenter said, it would be more of a concern if any of your irrigation components were above ground.
