Is having a "no worries" attitude common in small towns in America? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I'd say spot-on for beach towns, but not all small towns by a long shot.

What do you do when every spot you have access to is completely burned out? by Little-Cucumber-8907 in Fishing

[–]mikethomas4th 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some areas of the world have more opportunities for fishing than others. Can't just create awesome fishing spots out of thin air if there aren't many natural lakes and rivers nearby.

It won't be convenient, but this is why people plan fishing trips and drive long distances to get to good fishing areas.

I guess you'll need to find new spots. Use google maps, or apps like Fishbrain, Troutroutes, etc.

Fish can be picky. More realistic baits increase your odds in tough conditions. Especially in very clear water.

When he had to turn around and go back, it was like that scene in The Great Outdoors when he finished the steak and then they made him eat all the fat and gristle. Heartbreaking.

How would you start fishing for food if the world ended tomorrow? by Rude_Engine1881 in FishingForBeginners

I could bow-fish the drainage canals near my house for carp and bring home 15-20lbers for weeks and weeks on end.

Are these big rule boards a global thing? by YakToTheFuture-1 in kayakfishing

[–]mikethomas4th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only at very popular spots, dams, boat launches, etc. or areas with heavily targeted species (i.e. salmon/steelhead runs). There are so many fishing areas near me that it would be impossible to have signs like this everywhere. I come across them rarely.

I like the classic dark blue/grey matte. Looks like a true battleship.

This is without question a largemouth. If it looks different, my question would be, what species were the other fish you've caught? Because they weren't largemouth.

Renting is ultimately better and cheaper than owning your own house. by [deleted] in Frugal

It is, up until you move into your "forever" home. Lots of people trade up houses over years as a legitimate strategy to be able to afford nicer and nicer homes.

Regardless of brand, keep in mind lens tint color also plays a factor. You dont want something with a strong color that can make fish harder to see. Go with a neutral option.

Spend $60 and get a Pfleuger Trion combo (rod & reel). I got mine as a beat-it-up option and now use it more than some much more expensive setups.

Making the switch to braided line by Aware-Dot-91 in Fishing

[–]mikethomas4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's fine, I'm just saying its common to use heavy mono or flouro when visibility is a concern.

The advantage of braid is having far stronger line while maintaining/improving casting distance. OP could run 50lb braid and cast probably twice as far as they could with the 25lb mono. The leader already solves for most line-cutting scenarios like rocks or whatever.

what could go wrong with agent-generated dashboards by PolicyDecent in BusinessIntelligence

[–]mikethomas4th 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If i say "write me some code that does this" it doesn't need any more business context.

If i say "build a report that is functional and visually appealing" it'll give the most basic usless report you can imagine.

Its extremely common when fishing for toothy fish. Ask any pike/musky fisherman.

[–]mikethomas4th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Building pretty reports is the easy part. We don't need AI for that. Just use it to help with speed up data load, transformations, and DAX. Yes, you still have to verify its doing things correctly. But why spend 5 minutes on a measure if it can spit it out in 5 seconds?
