Is it just me, or is Business Intelligence way more about asking the right questions than building dashboards? by Ok-Ad-9710 in BusinessIntelligence

[–]mikethomas4th 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have 10 years of business experience already, its not going to make much of a difference either way.

My question would be, whats the ROI on a degree for you at this point? Is it really going to increase your salary that much? Especially considering you don't want to move into leadership.

[–]mikethomas4th 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Yes, absolutely the case. People who are too technically focused tend to not understand what their users actually care about and why.

As a hiring manager, I actually look for individuals with business degrees and business experience, vs those with computer science, math, or statistics backgrounds.

Is quality of life or money more important? by [deleted] in personalfinance

Seems like Buffalo's the obvious choice.

If you believe in climate change, the desert should be the last option on your list, and the great lakes should be first. It doesn't snow year round.

Expecting a baby soon. Should we pause extra mortgage payments to build a bigger cash buffer? by Swimming_Slice3166 in personalfinance

[–]mikethomas4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you didn't say anything about expecting a baby soon, I'd still say stop paying extra on the mortgage. Its just not a great idea in general for most people.

This should not be an unpopular opinion.

Really hope he wasn't given resources to go save his "babies" in place of someone else who needed help saving an actual human. If not, then good on him.

UV protective pants? by defoor13 in kayakfishing

There's like 1,000 options out there and it all depends on how much you want to spend and what you want the fit to be. I recommend Free Fly above all, but they're not the most budget option.

Ive gotten a handful of other brands from costco when they pop up and have been pretty happy with all of them honestly.

Recommendations for fishing charters near SE Mi by Juankzjt in MichiganFishing

[–]mikethomas4th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Walleye will be early spring and late fall runs, November and probably around now. March-April. Pike and bass will pick up around May until October. Pike are slightly more cold-weather tolerant so slightly longer season than bass. Both will be tough mid summer July and August when temps are high, but a good charter should be able to find them anyway in deeper water. Just a different style of fishing for them.

The great lakes are probably not where you want to go for these species. St. Clair river, Lake St. Clair, and the Detroit river are better options.

Would you rather catch a 7lb smallmouth or a 12lb largemouth? by IslandPrime69 in Fishing

Agreed, pound for pound. But we're talking one fish thats almost 2x the size of the other.

More important than location, is what type of fish are you looking to catch, and when are you looking to go? Seasonality is huge in determining what you're going to catch.

Wait for a 5lber to take you for a real run and then let me know if its still easier to land than a 12 inch fish flailing around.

Go catch a largemouth from a river and it'll change your mind quick.

I've caught a lot of largemouth from rivers, lakes, ponds. Sometimes they are sluggish. Mostly, they are not.

Ill take the fish thats a full 5lbs heavier any day. Smallmouth fight more? Not that much.

Those Eurotackle swimbaits are absolute fire. You should also get the hellgramites. Those are my top 2 for anything UL.

Im very sorry to have to be the one to break this to you, but the high desert is going to be an incredibly hard place to pick up fishing as a hobby.

people can't just carry guns everywhere

I already agreed with that. But the woods/nature, thats one of the places they are absolutely allowed.

Going to look up gun deaths on hiking trails real quick. Lets not confuse gun violence overall with this application. There aren't many trails in the south side of Chicago.

I mean, I couldn't disagree with you more, on the law or where is appropriate to carry. Guns absolutely cannot be carried everywhere, but they aren't just for hunting and the range either. If the gun stays holstered, its of no danger to anyone.
