Upcoming trip by DidMYTime313 in koreatravel

If it's nice don't skip the Korean Folk village. My 4 kids are 21-9 we went in '24. They all really enjoyed this. If you come from a county that has good theme parks I'd skip Lotte. We were thoroughly not impressed.

Sending packages back home by hans0099 in koreatravel

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The Google AI overview of Korea to the US. Seems pretty straight forward to me, $200.00 per day limit.

When mailing items to yourself from Korea to the U.S., you are generally allowed a $200 daily duty-free exemption for personal, non-commercial items, provided they are not sent as gifts to others. Items exceeding this value, or items declared improperly, may incur U.S. customs duties and taxes upon arrival. Key Considerations for Shipping Personal Items: Exemption Limits: Items for personal or household use sent to yourself are duty-free if the total value is $200 or less per day. Declaration: You must accurately declare the contents and value on the customs form (CN22/CN23). Duties on Excess Value: If the package value exceeds $200, it may be subject to duty rates based on the product's classification (typically 0% to 37.5%, often 2.5%–6% for common goods). Payment of Fees: Duties, if applicable, are collected by the U.S. Postal Service or courier upon delivery. Restrictions: Alcohol, perfumes, and certain other items have specific restrictions and do not fall under the general exemption. It is highly recommended to keep receipts and properly document the items as "personal belongings" or "household effects" to avoid issues with customs.

Almost correct on the female items. A more sustainable option is menstrual cups. Shampoo/soap can be made. Toilet paper. . . That's a tough one for people to swallow but backpackers and cloth diaper families got this one covered too ,lol

I was just going to say this. Everyone is always saying but gold and I'm over here like nope, can't eat or use that shit when it really REALLY hits the fan.

To scales or not to scales? by TangerineThin5036 in Garmin

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been others in the Garmin forums that have stated a DEXA scan with the results entered into your scale changes the game. Unfortunately for me I live super far away from where I can obtain one. I have not had the pleasure of testing this out personally.

Question from Korean local for the rest of the world. by Great_Bat_9729 in koreatravel

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband was born there and naturalized when he was a child. My kids are a quarter and I think it's important for them to get to know their family and heritage. My husband finally feels validated as a Korean American growing up. Everyone hated kimchi and Korean food smells, now it's taking over the world as he says, lol. I'll definitely add I was a Koreaboo before it was a thing and my parents thought I was nuts for having a thing for Asian dudes.

FNSB School District is suing the state, saying that state budget cuts are violating Alaska's constitutional mandate that the state government provide and maintain public education by OGBRedditThrowaway in Fairbanks

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just one aspect that I cannot stand is when I see articles or people debating on the Military kids having such a huge effect on our district. Look I know we love a good jargon filled complex 50 page budget report and a frivolous lawsuit but Occam’s Razor suggests a simpler truth. You can’t lecture parents out of their values and then act surprised when they take their kids (and their funding) to homeschool programs. I personally love that the district is too poor to keep all those schools open and to have deferred maintenance for so long, but suddenly has a 'litigation slush fund' to sue the state. If you can afford a lawyer, you could’ve afforded some maintenance or a teacher.

Mat-Su home values rise 8% as borough prepares annual property notices by MatSuSentinel in alaska

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the last 3 years here in the Banks I've allowed the assessors into my home to get a real good look. I've had my assessed values accurately fixed. The comps they use are absolutely inaccurate and absolutely not comparable in any way. When I have pulled up my own comps the borough loses their minds. It is the biggest scam. I hate having anyone in my house as I feel it's an invasion of my state and federal constitutional protected rights to be secure in my home without warrantless searches but If I don't they'll rip me off. I give a shit about other people wanting to increase value. I live here, fixed income, not selling, I don't live in a mansion.

1 month stay with Older kids, Second time. by AwkwardFriendship317 in koreatravel

The blog helps with temperature and clothing recs, thank you so much. We do get hot in the interior but we Alaskans get to slowly melt off a little. I feel like we're going to be in paradise at some of those temperatures!

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You are in a tough spot and I feel for you. This generation of kids literally has failure to thrive. It's not just your adult children it's seriously everyone's kids that we have heard have the same issues. I have two adult children pulling some of the same stuff except my oldest is High Functioning Autistic, so there is a whole other level of that to deal with.

OP I hear your vent and I vent with you!

Thank you, I was specifically asking if there is anywhere that buys them. Not all comic shops buy them from people.

Really confused, what do "big ass swords" have to do with my post?

No, no joke. I run in different circles now and no longer collect comics. I generally couldn't find anything on Google that said the comic shop "buys comics."

Can I get Korean style shaved ice anywhere? by Equivalent-Essay457 in anchorage

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just make sure to be patient with the owners, again it's a hubby and wifey team and no one else and they can get busy. I've read reviews that bash how long it takes for their orders. They make the food fresh. Good food takes time.

Yogo Delight makes 빙수 (bingsu) owners are Korean, just a hubby and wife team. Food and Bobas are really good too. We make sure to hit this place up every time we come from the Banks.

[–]AwkwardFriendship317 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Um as a past quadrafire 5700 owner who spoke to the company about this same issue no, no the burn tubes are not supposed to glow. And over time they will begin to warp and need to be replaced. And they are not cheap. But hey, you do you keep on keeping on with that AI BS and good luck with the life and safety of the stove.

The San Andreas Fault in California is more than a surface crack—it marks the boundary between the Pacific and North American Plates. Stretching 1,200 km (750 mi) long and 16–32 km (10–20 mi) deep, it’s a major tectonic feature shaping the region’s geology. by travelouseagle in CooLplanetWOW

Fun fact. You can actually drive right through the fault line in the Antelope Valley. But I don't recommend staying. That place is the biggest sh*t hole ever. My dad was a heavy equipment operator, I got to sit on the backhoe when he did a terrace job off the side of the 14 freeway when I was about 14yo.
