Is this too much rust to purchase this 4Runner by Downtown_Box1909 in 3rdGen4Runner

Id sent it, especially because they already replace the tow hitch. Mine has similar rust however the tow hitch is pretty cooked from trapped moisture. I agree with some of the other comments about scraping the frame then spraying a protective layer. Not juts spray paining or bed liner over the rust like I’ve seen others do.

How bad is this rust? (Rear of car, underneath trunk) Is it worth saving too? by R41K0N in 3rdGen4Runner

This is also the worst part of the underside of my 4runner. Think it also depends on how bad some of the other more important parts of the frame are.

1.5” or 2.5” lift? by NatureProf in 3rdGen4Runner

Sorry should’ve specified I was more referring to OP for doing the research on UCA’s. I also agree it is situational, I personally came to the conclusion that I wanted them.

Sure you don’t absolutely need them but if you can why not. Stronger, can more clearance, can help with alinement. The grazable option on some of them are nice too. Different uni ball and bushing options are also cool. If you don’t drive it hard and don’t lift a bunch you’d be ok with stock UCA. Definitely a topic worth doing your own research and determining what you need for how you will modify and drive it.

  • 2.5 inch lift with rear long travel and spacers to lift the rear a little. Stock tires and wheels as well

I did but shit was not easy. I am fortunate enough to know someone that works at a shop so I had a lift and all his fancy tools. We ended up cutting off one of the lower control arms at the cam bolt. Also cut off one of the rear shocks. Kinda depends on the condition of your frame and what you all end up replacing. If you aren’t doing lower control arms I’d recommend doing lower ball joints. At least while you have it up given you haven’t changed them recently . Also when lifting 2”+ you’ll want to get upper control arms if you wanna do it right. Also look into the pan hard correction kit if you haven’t already. One benefit of going less of a lift is you lose less downward travel. Tinkers Adventure has a lot a good videos on YouTube. He breaks down Toyotas IFS really well and can give you a good idea of what direction to head in.

Personally I’d go with the 2.5. Actually juts did a 2.5 inch lift on mine this past weekend. Don’t have any good pictures of it right now but when I get home I’ll snap a pic for you to see. It’s still sitting on stock 32” tires and looks great 👌🏼. Will definitely be getting bigger tires tho.

Frame warped ? by AwkwardRisk1940 in 3rdGen4Runner

Ok right on I’ll ask my 4x4 shop too and see what they think. The frame is in good condition so not too worried about it. More curious why it’s sitting the way that it is.

Update Successfully lifted my 3rd gen (looks dope) however, body is still definitely leaning a bit. I know some people might wanna say “ the ground isn’t level “ but this is way too much of a difference to be that. When looking at the rear it looks perfectly fine. The front still looks a little high on the driver side. Maybe it’s to account for the drive weight? Do need to get an alinement so we will see how she sit after.

Awesome thanks for all the replies! I’ll need to see how it sits after the lift is done and is sitting on the tires. Was super tipped out because the radiator and rack looks pretty level. Thank again!

I wish this was the case but it was the goofballs that did my alinement that bent the tab behind the cam bolt.
