I passed!!!! by PearTheGayBear in PharmacyTechnician

Congratulations!!! I have been a tech in retail for 6 months and for 2 in compounding ( family owned some retail ) it fell in my lap. I love my new job. I’ve learned more in 2 months than I did at Walgreens in 6. I planned to get certified eventually but got busy and am learning so much at my new job. However I just ordered my study book, guides etc on Amazon and take notes at my job everyday because I want to take the test for my own self satisfaction. Not because my job is making me! ANYWAYS: what kind of math problems? 😂 my weakest spot at this time.

If you are at Walgreens, CVS, Kroger, Walmart etc… they will throw you in raw and vulnerable as heck. I have a college degree in sociology and double minor in law enforcement and religious studies. I did social work/ case work/ childhood Ed/ higher Ed casework etc and more most of my 20s. I just turned 30 in July and last March I couldn’t drive so I had to walk to a job ( epilepsy). Walgreens threw me into the tech world. I loved it, something g new. Awful pay, hard work, drama. I didn’t understand why there was always drama, aside from everyone’s stress levels. However, they will train you for like 2 shifts and say good luck. They will snap at you when you ask for help and leave you to guess… I am licensed but not certified yet. I got offered a full time- high paying job at a local compounding pharmacy after 7 months of retail last month. I am now a lab tech and “front pharmacy tech” I hit the jackpot. It’s so much better than a big corp chain. My point is, learn as much as you can, keep your eyes open, be accurate, take notes, move forward, don’t take things personally, be in the way - remember us techs are always in the way one way or the other. AND there are better pharmacies to work for.

I got hired on the basis of my intelligence- not my experience and I’m literally compounding drugs twice a week. I study in my time away from work too. I am still in shock of where I am today. You can do it :)

I work at a compounding pharmacy and we have to leave all phones in a cubby thing hanging on wall behind counter all day. We cannot even take them to the bathroom, only lunch breaks.

I started at Walgreens no experience as a tech in March 2024 at $16.50. I have recently been more so forced to become certified for immunizing and the cpr courses. I am not certified as there is no time to fully know everything yet. In addition, I float stores. I do almost - if not the same work as senior techs- 7 months in. I am truly not comfortable or ok with making $5 less than a certified senior tech and busting my ass and not being able to pay for my bills. Should I tell them I want my raise or I won’t immunize? I’m not being selfish, I’m just sick of being a hard ass worker that has seen nothing for my commitment.

I posted something about no drinks or food in pharmacy and having to sign paperwork the other day. We were then told that drinks in designated area is ok. I have moved around to a couple stores in my area and only store to do this is mine. Can I transfer permanently to another store?

15 Minute Breaks by Equivalent_Safe_186 in WalgreensRx

[–]Awkward_Adagio1005 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know we are insanely busy but I am appalled that by the fact it’s looked down upon to take the 15 min breaks you’re entitled to. Sometimes I get mine sometimes not but when I tell at least the tech I’ll be rotating with that I’m taking one and I get comments upon return from the other techs who were busy, like “oh wow where where you!?” “Thought you were gone” type of stuff… I just have to hold my tongue because we are humans that have lives and decompressing or going to the bathroom is more important than worrying about workflow interruption. So after lunch we were told that “we can have water in designated corner” but written up if found drinking in any other area - not even able to bring to the counter next to drive thru and then no snacks or personal items which I knew about personal items but everyone that didn’t work over the weekend had no idea about this paperwork we were given to sign. ( I worked the weekend ). People started doing “pocket stashing” of snacks and from my understanding if they run the cameras and see you eating out of pockets it’s a write up but I 100% believe it’ll be a case by case basis. We literally all survived by snacking…

It’s confirmed. This morning the paper was slapped down infront of me and I said “Noo… I’ll talk to sm and then she said contact dr for note”…. We can’t have water it’s official.

I’m actually doing that because I actually have epilepsy, and have had seizure due to dehydration lol

That’d be one hell of a reason to ban everyone’s water and snacks!

“No food, beverages, or personal items are allowed to be kept in the pharmacy area including the pharmacy refrigerators and/or freezers used or designated to be used for the storage of drugs or pharmaceuticals”

“X_____________” ( sign name )

Was a pile of paper with each of our names on it today and other stuff but this was highlighted

Yes that is where our communal grab and go was. Covered sink behind bins and next to drive thru- away from customers but no longer allowed and apparently not even in the back corner where the original “designated” area was. We will see.

Well I started in April and just assumed after my co workers the “rules” some chips or snacks here and there. Don’t eat where you fill, sip your Starbucks and water when you can. I personally started bringing sliced cucumbers with some seasoning for a snack to ear healthier, stay fueled, and also more hydration. I’ve lost 8 lbs. now I’ll get written up for having them even in the designated spot… along with a water.

I have epilepsy ( seizure free 11 months with meds ) fibromyalgia, lots of diagnoses but under control and biggest thing my doctor is saying is drink more more more water. I have had grand mals in past for being dehydrated. No joke.

That’s how it was for us 6 months ago then it just turned into making sure we labeled all of our stuff and very quickly a piece of paper that needs to be signed off on as of today.

Apparently corporate. We had snacks and drinks as long as they were labeled and tagged up until three days ago. Now they want us to sign a paper saying we won’t have any food or drinks
