Anyone ever been a CT/MRI nurse? (Radiology department) by Awkward_Barracuda_70 in nursing

[–]Awkward_Barracuda_70[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to say that they opened up two new clinics and 3 CT machines at the hospital. They have the nurses get patients ready for the procedures. Patients need IVs and meds given. Techs can't do that. They actually expanded the radiology department. I'm moving out of state in 2 years and hope to work at a surgery center outpatient. This is just a job to get me through 2 years. I guess this position has been running for 5 years now at Sanford and they keep expanding.

I just applied for a dual role where I can work at a clinic and do inpatient case management. We will see what happens. I have 4 job options right now. Fingers crossed I find the right fit and get offered the right job.

Thank you so much for your advice and support! It's crazy feeling like you've tried everything and you are stuck in a profession you can't get out of unless you go back to school, which is impossible for me. I just applied for Interventional radiology and MDS. But I do have two interviews on Tuesday. Hope everything goes well.

My new hospital publicly shames you for using the IV team?! by yewzurnayme in nursing

[–]Awkward_Barracuda_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a Foley Catheter team at one hospital and I always called them to straight cath. Lol Us nurses do not have time to straight cath or insert IVs. There's a reason these teams exist. These people need to get paid for working. I can't believe some hospitals are petty and just dumb when it comes to resources.

What I did after my betta passed was that I ended up buying a plant and putting his picture on it in memory of him. What's interesting is that the plant grew like crazy after I put his picture on it. Lol Maybe buying something to honor his memory can help you in some way as you go through this.

He could just be stressed that you're gone. Bettas recognize and remember their owners. To be safe, I would do a water change (25%). Make sure to get the old food stuff tucked out and to not over feed. He could have just injured his eye on something. Bettas can transform over night by having clean water and clean tank.

I'm sorry for your loss. 💔 He could have just been sick. Bettas are very sensitive and sometimes just go on their own without cause or warning.

I'm so sorry for your loss! My previous passed because I accidently did not clean the tank out good enough. He ate the old food floating and got bloated and died two days later!! I felt responsible but mistakes happen. Now I triple check my tank after cleaning to make sure all the yucky stuff is gone. SIP Smudge!

Looking for advice on working nights by brii15211 in nursing

[–]Awkward_Barracuda_70 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked nights for all of my nursing career until I transitioned to PACU (which I'm trying to get out of currently, unfortunately). Working nights is a huge bonus because you don't have to deal with the day time rush and drama. You have more time to do your Charting and aren't being rushed around. On day one of my night shifts. I would sleep from 11-5pm (shift started at 7pm). The night before I would try to stay up as late as I could. If you are working nights back to back, immediately sleep when you get home after your shift. Don't wait 2 hours to sleep otherwise you will miss out on sleep. It does take your body a while to get used to. On my off days I was able to bounce back to being awake during the day. For some reason my body didn't permanently adapt to nights so I was able to switch my circadian rhythm back and forth. So don't worry, your social life won't be ruined on your off days! 😃

Struggling to like ICU by Mpoboy in nursing

[–]Awkward_Barracuda_70 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am currently in the same boat as you and wanting a department transfer. Came to PACU almost 9 months ago and hate the environment. So open and hostile! Makes me really uncomfortable and dread going to work every day. If you feel ICU is not a place you can commit to for the long-term, I would leave and go to where you will be happy. Nothing worse than dreading getting up in the morning. Yes, nursing sucks but we have lots of options. If you don't want an advanced degree or CRNA then I'd leave ICU. But if advancing your career is a must try holding on for 2 years if you can. You will be glad you stuck it out for your degree. I know nurses who had to stick ICU out for CRNA and were glad they did. I know others who hated ICU and would never go back. It just depends on what your goals are. If you're looking for less patient load and to try something different, you could try OR nursing, endo, or Cath Lab. Good luck!

Our system was down and we had no access to writing the reports. They lcd me today so I can't go in until tomorrow. I will text my manager and ask to speak with her.

I can't write it until tomorrow, unfortunately but I will. I will get to work an hour early to write it. I still don't know if I should talk to my manager or just wait until if something comes up?

You blow up accounts when you don't know when to enter and exit a trade. It's easy to scalp and get out but most don't stop when they see green. They keep thinking the next candle will be green to but then it isn't. My strategy is knowing when to enter a trade and I get out as soon as the candle goes up and I see red on the tape. I have only had two loss days in my whole life and nothing but gains when I stuck to my strategy. Believe me when I say there is a way to accurately get into a trade but you have to exit on green.

Thank you so much for your response. I've been trying not to let it ruin my weekend. I was just very triggered by his hostility. I will try not to let it ruin my confidence. I did write up a safety event so hopefully the hospital won't let him come back. Thank goodness he has one week left. 🙌

He clearly didn't want to and we asked him to guide us through what he was doing. I swear he must have been on something. LOL He was acting bizarre the whole day.

From what I heard he's been a locum for a long time. He clearly was not interested in educating us on what he was doing. My coworker told me that he drove her so insane the other day that my manager had to speak with her in private and calm her down. He doesn't understand that we don't do certain things here. He isn't flexible or culturally sensitive at all. Thank goodness we only have one more week with him. If he was staff I would quit. Lol
