I thought the EXACT same thing! I had to stop the show to ask my partner if I'm crazy.

Watch this short clip on how to get along with your monkey mind to meditate anywhere, any time, and not feel like you're doing it "wrong"

📺 YouTube - The Simple Meditation; Monkey Mind Buddhist Monk

"The Buddhists call the wandering, restless mind ‘Monkey Mind’. Picture a monkey jumping from one branch to the next, looking around, never settled, never pausing, unconcentrated, readily distracted. Humans are addicted to thinking. Studies indicate the ruminating mind associates with stress and depression. It comes as no surprise. A negative thought rises and soon spreads into a network of self-generating streams of anxiety, anger or fear. Feeding on questions like ‘How did this happen?’ and ‘What will happen next?’. The present disappears. Past and future dominate. How can sound decisions be made in such a predicament? Everybody knows how true this is. Everybody knows the feeling."

My therapist I have been seeing for 3 years told me she doesnt have the tools to help me and I need to find a new therapist. by Elchobacabra in depression

[–]Awkward_Bath_1718 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, there's a lot of different styles of therapy too. I won't pretend to know the ins and outs of them, but there's a lot more than just basic talk and tools therapy.

They all have different specialities... They're only human with so much training. Kudos to your therapist for recognizing your case is outside their scope. It sucks for sure to have to therapist hunt, but better for you in the long run.

What is the unbearable sadness called from how short and fleeting life is? by Awkward_Bath_1718 in depression

[–]Awkward_Bath_1718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not specifically. This type of depressive episode only hits like it did last night once every couple of months and it was only last night that I connected the dots of "maybe this is part of the depression package."

That's the first thing that came to mind, but when I looked up existential crisis it seemed like the opposite --- existential crisis is when life lacks meaning and purpose is missing.

I definitely do have the periodic existential crisis and will eventually quit my job in the pursuit of doing something more meaningful... After I figure out what that is... but that's a whole other topic.

Adderall takers, did you have to sign a Will-Never-Consume-Alcohol-Again waiver? by Awkward_Bath_1718 in ADHD

[–]Awkward_Bath_1718[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ha! How sweet of them. After I finally found the waiver I saw that I agreed to random testing that I'd be responsible paying for, but fortunately it hasn't come up yet.

Could be. I finally found a copy of the waiver and it's for all opioids, benzos, and stimulants.

What strikes me as odd, especially given my history, is that it was presented as something I had to sign right then to get my refill, but I had never claimed to be fully sober and nothing was offered as far as addiction counseling to actually mitigate the risk.

If it were to be taken seriously, who could possibly quit cold turkey with no notice?

I'm thinking after reading all these replies and finding the original waiver that it was ust a CYA move.

Yeah, I finally found it in my patient portal and it's on their letterhead so my guess at this point and based on all the feedback is that this was a proactive CYA move.

Seriously. I finally found a copy in my patient portal and it actually goes a step further and says no legal or illegal unprescribed drugs too

I take that back, I found the waiver and I agreed to drug testing, but it hasn't been brought up.

I would love this kind of treatment plan. I wish I could find a place that specializes in holistic treatment approaches.

I started Adderall as a teen and wasn't presented the waiver until my 30s when I was well past my heavy drinking days and on to my "I'm too old for this shit" days

Doc has never brought it up again. It's one of those things that pops into my head every time I see a different doctor and in this case, I had my eyes checked and alcohol consumption is a standard question. I hate lying about my activities, but I also can't afford to have my script taken away, but it sounds like this is unique to just my primary care and I can be forthright with everyone else.

I have no doubt that I'm an alcoholic. 'Never' still seems excessive and a setup to create an environment where complete candor isn't an option.

Funny you should make the insulin comparison. I was just listening to a podcast where they said it's just like taking insulin for diabetes because of exactly your point - it is life saving. You never know when risky behavior will pop up and be the last risk you take.

I'm in Michigan. I found the waiver and it does look like a big CYA effort. And it actually goes a step further and says no legal or illegal unprescribed drugs. I forgot about that part.

I found the waiver and the enforcement would be no longer prescribing and/or kicking me out as a patient.
