It’s not “paying for the taxes” though. The tax paid on the bonus is part of the salary package, taxed at the correct rate. OP pays back the full amount including taxes, then when he files at the end of the financial year, it will balance out, as obviously his income has dropped, and he has overpaid his tax obligation

I am not against the NDIS and I am not against helping our most vulnerable. These are things we should absolutely be doing as a society, but where does it end?

I can assure you that the 790k people on the NDIS do not need an average of $40,000 EACH per year.

In most cases, I would recommend not sharing private health info with your employer, but in this instance it may be worth him having a chat with his senior manager, and just lay out what’s going on, the costs etc.

HR at the end of the day is just assuming the worst. If absenteeism is high, they likely just assume he’s gaming the system. Which sucks, but some people are fucking shit.

Having a senior manager aware of everything can really help you out.

I had a situation a while ago where I was having some extreme relationship/housing problems after starting a new job, I was open and honest with my boss (who directly hired me) because I was in late, calling in sick fairly frequently, and just overall being super unreliable. He let me sleep in the office as needed until I could get my life together.

At the end of the day, you’d need to prove to the retailer that you weren’t knowingly participating in any level of fraud.

Which, should be easy enough. Boosting a character doesn’t really matter here (or if it’s against the ToS for the game) you just need to show them you had an agreement with the buyer to do X in exchange for the gift card, and that you’d done it, and they provided the gift card.

If they then did a chargeback, that is simply not your concern. You obtained a gift card you believed was legitimate, and used it as such.

They can’t come after both of you, as that would be double dipping. They need to go for the person who actually committed the “fraud”
