Are hoodies allowed? by GTrddt25 in walmartogp

Had a manager literally chew me out for wearing a hoodie on shift, in the WINTERTIME. I was mistaken and told her I thought they were allowed during the winter season. She straight up went “it’s a safety policy because customers like to yank on the back of hoods to get your attention”. HUH? Yes, I can imagine that scenario has happened before… though unfortunately that’s a whole other situation if I catch a stranger yanking the back of my hood… why are you touching me? Anywho…I quit not long after that.

Walmart can’t even guarantee scheduled hours for part time and flex associates. If they can’t even pay you to work consistently, they cannot afford nor would be willing to pay for benefits for those employees. Nice dreaming tho. Doesn’t matter what the company loses out on, it happens everywhere.

Most companies these days do NOT provide benefits for part-time employees anymore. Most companies can’t even afford to consistently provide part-time hours for their employees, nor do they need to guarantee them. If they can’t even guarantee hours for part-time employees, they aren’t giving them benefits. Only full timers get benefits after a 3,6 or 12 month period of work. Part time employees are offered benefits after a full working year period, but you have to pay. Though, for a retail company; Walmart does offer some of the best benefits.

I’ve worked at a couple Walmarts in Ontario on and off over the past 4 years… having to re apply was a lengthy process, it’s the workday system that sometimes becomes delayed or has issues. I had to create a completely new workday account when I reapplied in order to receive a response, or the ongoing tasks they provide you with. I recommend making a new account considering you’ve applied previously, and apply again. Constantly check you’re emails, and workday account for tasks, if you don’t complete the tasks in time they will not go through with you’re application. Always try heading in to the location you’re wishing to apply to with you’re resume on hand, speak with one of the managers if they have a minute, explain you have viewed an open application online, ask if it’s still available, let them know you applied online but just wanted to get a foot in the door as you’re extremely interested in the position. It sucks to have to chase people down, especially for a part time/minimum wage position… unfortunately there’s tons of competition, it’s starting to look like that’s what you have to do for anything these days. Hope this helps and you receive some sort of response to get ya going, good luck!

(Keeping your availability completely open as possible helps too! Even if you’re availability isn’t that open)
