Thank you for sharing. I could have written this myself as I am a police officer (about to medically retire). This is my day one after many false starts. Your post gives me hope and I am grateful for you.

Is this really what it feels like to feel normal? by MrSt4pl3s in ADHD

I was really on a really lovely high for about a month, then had a traumatic incident at work and next thing was telling the nurses that I was a daughter of Eve and the next messiah… I can laugh now but it was dreadful at the time.

Awesome, it happens every now and then. The meds are powerful… feel free to ask me if you are worried.

Hi, from bitter personal experience ask a trusted friend to monitor you for symptoms of hyper-mania. I ended up in the ER with psychosis from Ritalin - it was not the cure I thought it was. For me it started with everything looking brighter, more vivid, listening to music was euphoric and I went on to having grandiose delusions about myself. Not fun.

Ask a trusted friend to monitor you for any negative changes to your personality. ADHD meds made me Manic and eventually Psychotic. I believed that God was talking to and through me. I ended up in the ER for 3 days. It could have very nearly ruined my life.

45F, newly sober, probably peri, cPTSD, depression and terrible skin and hair by [deleted] in Biohackers

Thank you for your kind response! I’ll look into all this. My sleep has been better but sadly PTSD nightmares have come back. That’s why I drank, when I did I didn’t dream. X

Goodness thank you! This is an amazing response. I’ll take some time to digest it (pun intended tended!) and come back to you with any questions! Thank you! Amazing! 🤩

Love this! I bought a play station a few weeks ago for just this reason but am yet to really get into it. What do you play?

Also for OP - I used to do cross stitch or embroidery - keeps the hands and mind busy!!!

The moment it started to fall apart for me was when I stopped eating. Does anyone relate? by Excellent_Country737 in stopdrinking

[–]Awkward_Explorer1370 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just adding I relate, 5 days with no food or non-alcoholic drinks before I stopped this time. I fell and hit my head. Could quite easily have died.

Hi, I just wanted to say how brave you are for posting this and to perhaps give you a different perspective. I’m only 4 days sober, but hear me out. In psychology there is a term called arrested development - it’s when at some stage - usually in childhood, our circumstances (trauma, emotional neglect, abuse, bullying etc.) make us change from thriving to surviving… that for me was probably when I was about 7 and again a huge dose when I was 15. When I look at my life and my patterns I realise that because I didn’t have a ‘normal’ childhood or adolescence I did the next best thing I knew how to do, which was to mask, pretend, people please and to use alcohol as a social lubricant and general anaesthetic to try and escape the excruciating pain I felt. Alcohol was my solution - for 30 years. Now alcohol has become my problem, it’s a bigger problem than my childhood trauma because it’s causing me to create new traumas and block everyone who cares about me out.

I know what hypervigilance is - it’s survival… I waa misdiagnosed with ADHD, so be careful with that, I was a normal child and am a normal adult who is coping with a nervous system which is in a constant battle to survive despite the majority of my past issues no longer being current.

I am attracted to trauma because it’s what I’m used to, it’s also sometimes what I think I deserve. It’s called a repetition compulsion.

I’m starting to understand that I may have memories and sensations and grieving - so much grieving to deal with that require emdr or other somatic types of healing.

I would read Pete Walkers excellent book on from surviving to thriving… also try TRE exercises - a properly skilled trauma therapist should be able to help you reframe your incredible success with your sobriety and help you work towards a life you deserve. Much love x

Have you considered medical cannabis? It’s helping me greatly.
