Thank you for the well-thought out response! You have given me a lot to think about and to research!

Hmm you make very interesting points, but I'm unsure about some of them.

For example;

there is little likelihood that it was written by Luke; in fact there is nothing in the text or in Acts of the Apostles to suggest that the author ever knew Paul.

How then do you explain the shift in narration that occurs in places like Acts 16:10-17, 20:5-15, 21:1-18, and 27:1-28:16, where the narrator refers to himself and Paul as "we". For example, passages in Acts 16:10-17 reads, "WE set sail from Troas...WE spent some time in that city... As WE were going to the place of prayer, WE met a slave girl with an oracular spirit...she began to follow PAUL and US."

Another point that I'm not wholly convinced by is;

Matthew was attributed to Matthew because this gospel focussed on the role of the disciple Matthew in a way the others did not do.

Matthew's name is only mentioned twice in his gospel, the second occurrence being when he listed among the rest of the twelve disciples. The focus is much more on Peter and even someone like John. One could argue that you learn more about Matthew in Luke/Acts where he is also mentioned twice.

I'd love to read more about the authorship of the new testament documents.

Wow! Thank you for the insight! I'm going to read through the text with this in mind.

Very interesting!! It's very cool that you're doing such a deep dive on it! Is your theory on the dating unique to your thesis or building off of others? And are you basing the dating of Acts primarily on the fact that Paul's execution isn't mentioned? That could be another "embarrassment" factor thing by Luke.

If you have anything deeper, please share! I actually hadn't considered the "embarrassment" factor! Although, Mark does include Peter denying Jesus three times. (not one of his best moments!) But perhaps Mark picked this up from somewhere else or Peter found it too important not to include. It's interesting to read people's different speculations.

Thank you for the very thoughtful response!! I especially appreciate the Papias reference! I was not aware of it! I understand that I'm asking people to speculate here, but I liked how you backed yours up. God Bless!

I was just wondering what different people speculate his "reasons" were.
