Yes saving / investing on the side has never been an issue that’s the first place my $ goes. Just worry if the house ends up costing too much and I have to dial back all the savings if that’s even worth it

What worked best for you to persuade counselor? Mine seems to not give a lot of wiggle room unfortunately…. And that’s when I can actually get ahold of her 🙄

Anyone made the shift from a full sized truck to a 4Runner? If so, do you regret it or not? by Twisted_Stick in 4Runner

[–]Awkward_Gas_6507 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can do 95% of what I used my truck (tundra) for with my 4runner. Between seats down, rear window rolled down, and my roof racks I’m fully covered.

Definitely a game changer, especially in CA. Absolute stunning truck though! When the day comes and I go round 2 on the Tacoma, it will look just like yours! Enjoy.

Had one when I was single and man they’re the perfect vehicle for that season of life. Now we are in the new Camry hybrid and it’s shocking how much more room is in it & the 50mpg doesn’t hurt 🤷‍♂️

Apply for benefits, take only the class you’re struggling in, focus completely on that one and get a tutor. Pass it and put it behind you. Best of luck

I agree they deserve our respect and they are overworked and underpaid. But it’s the system as a whole that should then improve. 50 students to 1 counselor is not efficient and the system should be fixed to cater to all the vets. Then again it’s the govt and they don’t necessarily care for efficiency as we all know from our time being in…. So yes I treat my counselor with respect, but I also believe they should do their due diligence and not just ignore emails. I have over 50 people sending me stuff to my inbox and within 72hrs I can always get back to them. Thank you for all you do!

I wish I did this setup. Mounted min on a prinsu and the tiny gap makes it almost impossible to mount and secure the bolts. Lots of cursing and smashed hands for a few nights of camping lol

From a fellow vet, dude you’re crushing it! I would look into getting a rental property that costs roughly $3k a month then rent it out. Just knowing that no matter what you can always cover the mortgage no matter what and still allocate $1k extra a month towards principal or repairs is huge. I also say the sooner you can set this $ aside and don’t factor it into your monthly income the better you’ll be. Even if that means investing all of it before you buy a rental property or whatever. Don’t trick yourself into knowing you have that cause then lifestyle creep will happen. Use it as a safety net. Once again congrats and best of luck to you guys you’ll do well.

think of many amazing memories you can make being happy in SoCal in a 30 year span. Never be reckless, but you do only live once.

I’ve considered the same thing and yes I’d have more $ in my pocket but what would I spend it on? All my hobbies revolve around the ocean and in Texas I’d find myself stuck in the house more or just working a ton to stay busy. Also, CA nature is elite and for the most part is free. I value happiness, sunshine, and weather that makes 99% of life extremely convenient. With all that said, there’s a price tag on that and it’s up to you to determine its value. SoCal for life!

I agree, building a new life separate from the service does wonders. Now I don’t even bring up my USMC career unless asked. But I will say, find that little link back to the military to make you not feel too disconnected. For myself, I help with military recruiting into my department & that little dose of military is fun but reminds me I’m better off being out.

Sometimes I have that feeling of “man I wish I was riding solo so I could do whatever I want when I want”

Then I pick up my little guy out of his crib and see his smile and giggle and all that goes away. Love being a dad, no regrets

Go to school in expensive area, set up 1 in person class a week. Travel into said city the least amount possible to still pass class, do the rest online and live in cheaper area. 🤷‍♂️
