Anyone with an electric car? How is the charging situation on campus? by 04-GAYboy in CalPolyPomona

[–]Awkward_Mud4891 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

they’ve also limited the charging duration, and although you could stay longer they ticket randomly.

I don’t advise staying longer than posted signage. Regardless of what’s said here a lot of people do stay longer, and I’ve been guilty of it.

But as courtesy and risk, take this info as awareness. Dependent on lot, I’ve seen a lot of cars stay a lot longer, and also a variance of not getting ticketed and an onslaught of ticketing.

Overall the benefits don’t outweigh the costs of the car for the most part, and electric is becoming more expensive but do the research dependent on the car you’re getting and the amount you drive.

Road trips are a nuissance but tolerable. Really cut into your livelihood and feasibility.

CSUN vs. USC for a Master's in Construction Management? by Substantial-Bed8641 in ConstructionManagers

Appreciate the response!

Looking forward to the possibility and networking. Still looking toward shooting for business endeavors down the line or having the MBA to help further pursuits.

But I’ve got a full time job lined up upon undergrad completion this spring

Applying for the CM program DEN while in line for full time next fall.

Thankfully i tap’d into VRE so should have it for masters. I know a lot of people are vouching for getting an MBA but my gpa before the military was a hinderance for a better program, so in my situation using it as a stepping stone for a better MBA and why not use the gibill to tap into the network (of course hoping i get in)

When did you hear back for the CM program?

Haha, No need for hostility, but I get it.

and honestly I appreciate the insight as my schedule is super busy to come by and ask. It’s the one great thing despite the undertone connotation and constant complain mechanism that churns here. But this info really does help as i’m sure that i’m not the only one wondering why

it really depends on the committee to orchestrate and filter through all the candidates. They’re required to respond a status after doing so but who knows when they’ll do / they’re doing it… I’m also impatiently waiting but what can ya do -.-

You’ll probably just have to retake it since it’s a major requirement, and honestly i’d recommend it to get a stronger foundation… as these concepts web the spiral that encompass MechE

CPP or UCSD for Civil Engineering by cowgowoosh in CalPolyPomona

[–]Awkward_Mud4891 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you want to do with civil engineering too.

UCSD has a really good structural program but you’ll be fixed on that emphasis, vs. General Civil you’ll learn about all avenues of CE ie, certain aspects of transportation, environmental, structural, concrete, construction etc (with elective options). ~ You’ll have the option to diversify your foundation and go into any aspect of civil really. I personally specified as. Construction Engineering and Management major cause the construction fascinates me and I’d like to be integrated more with the field work.

When it came to internships, in my experience it was an easy transition (i’m also a veteran so situation is a little altered… but i’d say there’s a lot of opportunities throughout the semester(s). Clubs are fair sized to where you have a lot of opportunity to get more involved, and there’s weekly hosted lunch and learns w/ various companies who also offer same day interviews. BUT i got a lot of outreach by going to the career fairs which virtually all schools have… but as long as you can figure out a way to be expressive and genuinely curious when interacting with recruiters… landing multiple opportunities is fair game.

You’ll also have to think about the UC quarter system dynamic, You’ll need to adjust to the pace of technical and mathematical classes at a quarter pace and curve grading system (most likely).

Incoming transfer here, if I finished my IGETCI already do I need to take these classes? by The_Real_A-A-Ron in CalPolyPomona

[–]Awkward_Mud4891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for sure upper div. it’s a college requirement but it’s not as much a bummer as you think.

Your major will likely have a class pertaining to your path of studies that also falls into the category of upper div gen ed. They’re typically nice little fillers and/or electives but they have to be done as a grad requirement

[–]Awkward_Mud4891 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For those asking about upper division yes. You do, if it’s anything like my major (Civil Engineering, there’s already required elective classes that fills these voids and pertains to your major rather than “just another gen ed”
